moisturizing aftershave recommendations

I currently use Musgo aftershave balm. I really like it a lot, but would try to have a few other aftershaves for variety. Any recommendations on aftershaves that also help in the moisturizing department? I have tried Nivea aftershave balm in the past, but my wife was not a big fan of its smell.

Musgo is nice. AOS aftershave balms are quite moisturizing too, so is T&H Ultimate comfort Balm. Proraso Pre/After shave. Not all balms are moisturizing.

Even if you get an ASB thats not moisturizing, you can add a little bit of moisturizer to it such as Nivea, vaseline, then mix it up in your palms and apply to your face.

I have a few recommendations for you, but as always, YMMV. That said:

Spieck ASB - hey, it's Spieck, it's gotta be good!

C. O. Bigelow Bay Rum ASB - if you like the scent of bay rum, this bad boy's for you

Also, if you have an ASB that's not as moisturizing as you'd like, rather than adding some kind of lotion I'd suggest getting a bottle of glycerin ($3 for a lifetime's supply at WalMart) and adding a few drops of that instead. Just be careful: too much means a greasy/sticky feeling that I personally don't like.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

My wife also hated the Nivea.

Proraso ASB is excellent, I didn't like the Speick balm, it's greasy and smells funny (not at all like the splash which I love. Pre de Provence is very good, too.

The Gentlemen's Refinery balm is the best I've tried, though. I hate the packaging, so I put it in another bottle. But the balm is worth the hassle.

Thanks for the recommendations. Proraso seems to get a lot of praise on the review page and is recommended here. I will pick some up next time I put an order together.

Saint Charles Shave. Sue makes awesome stuff. I suggest you start off with Mediterranean citrus (and it may ned up being your only aftershave) and see what you think. It's inexpensive and works beautifully.

+1 on the SCS products.

Really :) Sue is big on this board but often doesn't get mention. Her products are absolutely first rate. She just sent me a sample of her shaving soap, which I am now ashamed to say I had never tried because it kicks butt.

Amen on Saint Charles Sue!

The gold standard in moisturizing AS balms, IMO, is St. Charles' "Avocado Oil" aftershave balm. I enjoy the Proraso balm, the Musgo balsam, and Weleda balm, but Sue's Avocado Oil is a step above.

I'm a gettin ready to try SCS "Sahara" too.

Neutrogena post shave ASB
Peter Thomas Roth ASB
The Shave Den Milk
Zirh Soothe
Body Shop Arbor

All of mine sit in the fridge, so they soothe and cool and moisturize!

Just enough glycerin not to make your face slimy

I was thinking about trying some soap from SCS when my current supply for my mug runs out this month. Some of the SCS aftershaves sound interesting and it is good to hear that it is good stuff. Thanks for the additional suggestions.
