Moisturizer for skin under beard.

Seeing as it is no shave november, I've been accumulating a bit of facial hair. I have pretty dry skin, and have always had trouble figuring out what to use on the skin under my facial hair, especially on my chin. It's gotten so bad that the skin is flaky (similar to dandruff). I've tried regular lotion, and that didn't do much good. Anybody have suggestions for a more suitable product?

When you've got a couple of weeks of growth you'll need to start shampooing and conditioning your beard. Once out of the shower, some pure jojoba oil is great to rub into the beard as it's readily absorbed by the skin.

Get the conditioner included version of what you already use, or use whatever appeals to you.

Since you are using a dandruff control shampoo, you may have dandruff in the facial hair area, OR your dandruff control shampoo is too agressive and causing your skin to dry and flake appearing as dandruff, even though the infection that causes dandruff is not present.

I like Suave for men with conditioner for regular use, and Head and Shoulders with conditioner for once or twice a week. Neither taste terrible if you get a taste (not recommending tasting though). Suave basalm and protein was gross tasting but worked nice.

I wear a goatee, but it is usually clipped below 1/2 inch.

Jeez! A bit OT, but I sure wish I had read that a few years ago! I took a road trip to England about 4 years ago and forgot to bring my own shampoo and just used what was around...which was ALWAYS dandruff shampoo. Within a few weeks of getting back I started getting insane dandruff problems so I started trying dandruff shampoos myself...and it just kept getting worse! For about three years I couldn't figure out how to control the blizzard coming off my scalp, even seeing a dermatologist didn't work at all, and then around the beginning of this year I just gave up and started trying a few "normal" shampoos that I just liked the smell of, and it gradually cleared up! Sheesh...

I've often thought that dandruff shampoos are designed to give you dandruff. They dry your scalp. I rinse my hair everyday with hot water but I only shampoo once or twice a week. That's a lot less stripping than our Madison Avenue geniuses would find ideal.

Jojoba and rosemary oil works for me. I have had the same problem, especially in the winter (I have a 3 inch full beard). I also use a gentle shampoo (American Crew Citrus Mint), and Pantene conditioner. I'm wanting to get a -cone free conditioner, so I might try Suave Naturals soon. At any rate, I mix 2 drops of rosemary oil per 7 or 8 drops of jojoba oil and rub it on my beard after I shower. The results are amazing, and it definitely takes care of any face dandruff. Smells good too!

I have worn a closely shaped beard for 33 years. Flaking under the beard was a problem until I started using Paul Mitchel The Conditioner-it is a leave on hair conditioner. I use it on my scalp hair daily after shampooing and drying my hair to still damp and also rub it into my beard-it works great. It is also a very good after shave balm-so often I slather my whole head in the stuff!!

Will have to give this a try.

If you not start taking some fish oil and see if that clears it up. Also you can use Sauve 2 in one shampoo and conditioner on your beard. Lastly When I had a barber who did ole school beard shapings and trims he lathered my beard with Vasoline and then steam toweled my face. It works too but adding fish oil to my vitiman regiment has solved it all for me.
