modding williams?

ok so i have a puck of Williams that i'd like to "improve" after reading of some of the different things done to Williams to make it better. but the thing is How. what are you supposed to do to Williams to be able to add the ingredients. dose it melt , do i have to grate it? those types of questions. also i'v heard of adding glycerin to Williams to make it lather easier but dose the glycerin added have to come from a shave soap? or can any glycerin based soap work?

and if you have any other tips i'd be greatfull. if not share your will-mods if you have any.

can't help you other than this: DO NOT TRY TO MELT WILLIAMS!

I will mostly remain silent, as in my experience Modern Williams is a disaster as a shaving soap (Vintage Williams on the hand is great stuff).

However, ask yourself why it should be necessary to modify a shaving soap at all? Why do you want to put forth so much effort into fixing a $1 puck of soap? Why do you want to spend additional money making a $1 soap work (you're effectively trying to fix the manufactures mistakes)?

Honestly, you are better off just saving your money, and buying a product that works as intended out of the box. VDH Deluxe for example....

Williams being tallow based, cannot be melted. You will need to grate it.

uh because its fun? and as for buying a better soap. i already have a better soap which works wonders but Williams is a good practice soap.

yes if you can lather Williams you can lather anything.

i agree. they sell just plain old glycerin. ive never added it to soap personally. i bought a refill puck of mwf and blended in two pucks of williams so i could get the scent but keep the quality of mwf. it was fun and i have a soap i really enjoy from time to time. lathering williams isnt a problem, the problem is it lacks any protection.

just use a cheap cheese grater to blend the soaps and pack it in a container well.

well i did a little experiement. grated some williams grated in what seemed like a glicyrin based soap a diffenrent soap which had a color to it. added some olay "quench" lotion to it and a couple sprits of english leather. mixed all together made into a puck and now im leting it sit to harden up. once its hard enough i post pics and attempt at lathering it. we will see if it happend to improve or not.

well it lathers up easily enough good slickness better smell and moisterising but the lather isent nearly as thick as i'd like.

I love the attempt, but that is one unappetizing puck! And it is clear from those pics that the lather is pretty weak. Thanks for posting the photos!

yea never said it was beautifull or finsihed yet. just the current itteration of the mod mix is gona be tweaked. i got some actual glicyrin soap now and will be mixing some of that in soon.

I hate to break it too you, but that lather is rather useless for shaving. It's too airy, and bubbly to provide any protection for your face. It will also likely dry out really fast.

ya i know that. as i said its a work in progress.

For me a Boar Brush Lathers the Modern Williams best.

I tinker with my Williams because it is fun and the Puck is cheap and a Ole school classic brand.

I have melted Williams using a double boiler method.
