What's new

Mixing?

So a while back I bought some cologne. I got a bottle of 212 ON ICE, which for some reason is VERY hard to find in the states. But, I did and I got it. Well, the guy that sold it to me was saying he wears it WITH Acqua Di Gio.

Ha, that's nice pal...here's your money and I walk off.

Okay. Let's fast forward. My friend wears also ADG. He called to tell me he bought and liked Paris Hilton. It was a joke between us, blah blah. Not the point.

Here's what happened. Getting ready for work he put on his ADG. Walking out the door, forgetting he'd already sprayed ADH he applied PH. The results...more comments than you could handle.

So.......

Anyone here have a combination of scents they wear simultaneously? :w00t::w00t:

No, and I sure wish I had some sort of knack for it.

I gather from BN, and some people I have met, that it's some sort of savant-like talent.

I'm always afraid it'll end up like some sort of horrible experiment gone very wrong.

I hope someone weighs in here.

I too though, have dabbled a bit with an aftershave and different cologne.

But usually in the same scent family.

I eat a lot of chicken these days, and once in a while I enjoy a nice roast duck. I have no desire to eat turducken. There are many colognes that I enjoy wearing, but I just haven't felt compelled to put them all on together.

I've experimented with layering but usually it doesn't go over so well.

Two I've had success with, though, is Diptyque Tam Dao + Penhaligon's Elisabethan Rose and Shulton (or P&G) Old Spice + Pinaud Bay Rum.

I think GIT benefits from the addtion of something with a bit of leather in it, say just a bit of K10.

I think 88 benefits from something with a lighter rose to it.

Something fleeting like Pinaud BdP or Florida Water or Hoyt's goes well wih lots of stuff more tenacious.

I think there are lots of possibilities. I have never really tried much.

lol. I agree and that's why when I ordered Tabac, I ordered the AS and the cologne. Same with Speick----I love the AS, so when I ran out recently, when I re-ordered, I also ordered some of the cologne. This eliminates the guessing game of what will clash with what and keeps me from smelling like a chemistry experiment!

Quite contrary my dear wet shaving friend. Unless you are wearing a single note fragrance, you are wearing turducken. Most all fragrances are a combination. Surely you don't eat chicken alone. You combine it with some complimenting side items. Yes?

Mmmmmm... Turducken....

Probably the best combo for me that gets a lot of compliments is using Ivy Club -> P&G OS Cologne, I don't know why but the ladies love it.

I'm guessing its a blending of the manly with the metro that leads to near Mandom

An SA who has been very helpful and seems quite knowledgeable told me some people layer some EdT's or perfumes with a single note vanilla scent. She gave me a sample, but I haven't tried it yet. It's an interesting concept, but I'm still enjoying getting familiar with different scents as the maker designed them.

Christian Lacroix Tumulte + Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood is awesome. I'm sure that any sandalwood scent would complement the Tumulte well. The creaminess of the sandalwood mellows out the cedar of the Tumulte most awesomely. Maybe even a vanilla note to go with the cedar?

Caron Pour Homme has a lot of vanilla in it. I have not down it yet, but I am thinking about using it with various other scents to see what a little vanilla (and lavender, if I recall) does for them.

Am on sort of a Caron kick anyway. Very natural smelling, but very tenancious, scents, at least on me.
