Mistral Cedarwood Marine

I came across something I thought I should share, since I haven't found a thread about it here.
Mistral is a French company who makes some really nice soaps which typically run about $8-14 a 9 oz bar. I tried a couple and quickly found the one I like best, their cedar wood marine. It has moved Neutragena Rainbath, L'Occitane Baux, and Tabac soaps aside and is my unrivaled favorite. What I just discovered a couple weeks ago, is there is also a Parfume spray which matches the smell of the soap perfectly. Opens with a marine citrus top with a middle of spicy amber, and a bottom of cedar/musk. It's $60/100ml spray, and the longevity of the smell is incredible. I'm new to this fragrance thing and don't claim to know anything about it, except that I know instantly when I like something. I knew the first time I smelled Dior Eau Sauvage I liked it, and I knew I wasn't going to get tired of it. Its the same with cedar wood marine, I love this smell. As I'm typing this, I'm still enjoying the smell of the bath soap I used at 8:30 this evening and its almost 11.30. It's like I just put it on.
Everyone's taste is different, but this isn't that expensive that you feel bad about taking a chance on it. I can't help but think some of you might really like it.
Oh, and Mistral also makes shaving balms in the same fragrance.

Sorry guys, I just got back to the thread. I bought mine from Amazon, but you can also buy it from the Mistral site.
I have the Black Amber also, and its really nice. They also have a Black Amber cologne, which I haven't tried yet, because the Cedarwood Marine just blows me away.

I've tried the Black Amber soap and their Sandalwood soap (I have kind of a soap AD too). They are excellent. Have to try the Cedarwood Marine now for summer.

I've been using the bar soap for two weeks now and you can't tell that the bar size has diminished at all. I always shower and shave in the am and do a few miles of walking after work every day and shower after that, so I use a lot of soap, but I haven't put a dent in this bar yet. I expect a bar would last months.

Thanks for the link John, I picked up both Frags from Amazon since they offered Free Shipping.

I received my frags today, that was really fast, ordered them Thursday night, the scents were noticeable when I opened the box. I'm looking forward to trying these, first up will be the Cedarwood Marine, once I'm through my bottle of Nautica Voyage, possibly in the first week of August.

I'm interested to know how you like it. Also hope someone tries the Black Amber soap and cologne. I have the soap but no cologne yet.

Thanks for the link and all the info guys. Sounds very interesting.
I think I'll try a few soaps first. Very interesting scent descriptions. If they are actually anything like the write ups, I think I could be very happy.
Maybe our B&B sample brothers will have some of the colognes soon.

Trying the soap first should work for you. With the cedar wood marine, the soap and the cologne smell alike to me. Don't know yet with the Black Amber, but i can tell you that the fragrance of the Black Amber soap is more subdued than the cedar wood.

O.K., you twisted my arm, I'll use the Cedarwood Marine tomorrow, I would imagine the Black Amber would be better suited to cooler weather. I just did a small spray of Black Amber on my Forearm, it automatically reminds me of Aramis Tuscany, which I loved at first sniff. I think a light application would work during warm/hot weather, initially it seems better suited to Fall/Winter.

Since I tried one... a small spray of Cedarwood Marine, not Aquatic, definitely Marine with Cedar & Spice in the background, unfortunately I lack the knowledge to describe scent notes other than Marine, Cedar & Spice. Reminds me of an EO, labeled Valentino, I picked up 29 years ago in Saudi Arabia, I'm really liking the scent and can't stop sniffing my arm, I'll post again tomorrow after a full day with this scent.

My friend

I agree they do a tripple milled soap. I like their florals. The lilac, smells like the lilac bushes outside, and recently used their summer one that is grapefruits etc. Nice summer soap.

For wht it is worth, look at Michale Design Works soaps as well. These are made i France, tripple milled, and a pure vegetable soap. Lot of shea butter and glycerine. I use the grapefruit in the summer, and their olive all the time.
I recently after 60 years in this world, found out how drying, harsh deodorant soaps are.
Michael Design works again, is a large bath bar that will last 4 months. Again, the milling makes it a pure, long lasting bar.
Another I recommend is Nesti Dante, an old Italian soap maker, that makes everything, including all vegetable. ( carrot/cucumber etc, which is nice on the skin.
You can go for the MANLY scents , my advice, get the others, especially the fruits in the summer.

Nice day my friend

I donned the Cedarwood Marine this morning @ 5:30AM, two sprays on the crooks of my elbows, chest and back of my neck. The first 90 minutes are prominent Marine & Spice with a background note of Cedarwood, afterwards the Wood aspect nudged out the Spice while Marine was still dominant and the total fragrance was noticeable for ~2.5 hours. From ~10AM until I arrived home @4PM, the scent was still there without having to search for it, mainly Marine with the Cedarwood & Spice right behind it.

For me it's a well balanced scent with good longevity, the sillage isn't in-your-face powerful, but isn't shy about letting you know it's around. Overall I really enjoyed wearing it and find it's scent is different than most of the other Aquatic & Marine types currently available, for me it's definitely a re-buy when this bottle is gone.

I also loved the bottles dimensions, not too wide, easy to hold and the spray was consistent and plentiful. The Silver Cap, Black label & Silver lettering combined with the shape of the Bottle gave it a Manly, Distinguished look to my eye.

I'm looking forward to the fall and my first wear of the Black Amber.

I also have used the Black amber and the sandalwood soaps and loved them. They are actually some of the best soaps I've ever used, great scent, great lather, all around great soap. Loved the scent of the black amber the most, I want to pick up the edt just haven't got around to it, yet. I bought mine off of Amazon and plan on buying more, again.

Pretty much mirrors my experience with it. Two things surprised me. The first time I smelled the soap, I knew this fragrance is a keeper and i'm buying the cologne, then the second was the staying power. To be a relatively inexpensive cologne, I didn't expect it to last like it did. I've already ordered an extra bar of soap and bottle of cologne, and am ordering the Black Amber cologne to try next.

Thanks for starting this thread, as I posted earlier, the Black Amber initially reminded me of Aramis Tuscany. I might have to do a full wear on my weekend, I don't think I can wait for the cooler weather to confirm my first impression of this Fragrance.

crfcom, I just found this thread for using a Cologne as an Aftershave , thought it might help; http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/300987-Using-cologne-as-aftershave

I just ordered the Black Amber cologne, so I'll be trying it also as soon as it comes.
Regarding the thread on using cologne as an After Shave, I had seen that thread and ordered an apothecary bottle and some Thayer's witch hazel with Aloe to use in just the way they describe in the thread. I was planning originally to use Tabac cologne to mix with the witch hazel, but since I'm on a Cedarwood Marine tangent right now, I may alter the recipe.
Be sure to let us know how the week end goes.
