Missouri Merrschaum MacArthur Review

I thought it would be a good idea to post a review about my Missouri Meerschaum MacArthur pipe.

Many people find this massive pipe very intimidating.
I find the pipe to be very nice and a pleasure to smoke. I smoke a bowl of Super Value Black and Gold in this pipe this morning. It's a nice blend considering I bought the 12oz bag from Rite-aid. Its not too sweet, has a pleasant aroma and surprisingly doesn't bite!

As I smoked the pipe on my walk this morning, I had several people giving me looks as if to say "what the F?" But hey, I'm the type of gentleman that likes to live life to the fullest and try new things :thumbup1:

The pipe is pretty tall and has a long stem making it similar to a semi-churchwarden.

Even though the pipe is very large and has a very deep bowl, the diameter of the bowl is only 0.75"

This pipe, unfortunately does not have the wooden plug to help prevent burn through. However I have not had any issues with mine.

The pipe is completely unfiltered, making it desirable for those who prefer an unfiltered pipe but a nuisance for those who prefer a filtered pipe.

The pipe smokes very well and gives you at least an hour long smoke. The pipe would be good for any blend you see fit, and would make a perfect flake pipe.
I've read reviews of this pipe having problems with staying lit about half way through the bowl, but I used a very moist aromatic in it this morning and it stayed lit just fine :thumbup1: I have not had any issues with the burn at all and the bowl of this massive pipe never gets too hot for me to hold.

This is a wonderful pipe and will be a definite icebreaker and conversation piece for the old veterans who may have served with General MacArthur.

Great review, very thorough! Can you also post your reviews in the review section? Currently we have to do them in the speakeasy consumables section, but if we have enough BL ones, we can get our own category soon!

Thank you, I'll see what I can do about putting it in the review section. I have to find it first :001_smile

Thanks for the review!! Of all the pipes on MM's website, this one intrigues me the most. I think what I'd like most about it is the smoking time. It seems like the few pipes I've smoked so far last only 15 minutes or so. I'm still new at this, so that might have something to do with my technique, but it would be nice to have a pipe that's good for a longer smoke.

Well, this is definitely it! :001_smile
Depending on how you pack your pipe, you'll have a smoke that last any where from 45-minutes to more than an hour!:thumbup1:

Great review. I really enjoy mine, on the rare occasions when I get to smoke it. I had an issue when I first got it. The smoke hole was either on the bottom of the shank, or in the very end, up against the wall of the pipe. Either way, after a couple of smokes, the hole was blocked. I couldn't get a pipe tool in to clear away the dottle/ash. So I just drilled into the top of the shank and hit the hole from the other side. Problem solved.
