Missed Opportunity (Sorry - I have to vent)

This post has no point other than allowing me to vent. I missed my opportunity to get my hands on my first vintage razor at a ridiculous price.

I was driving home Friday afternoon and I noticed a new antique/discount store that just opened its doors last week. I dropped by and asked if they had any old DE razors and the owner gave me a sympathetic look. She informed me that she had just sold the only three they had in stock.

After several questions, I was able to determine the following:
* All three were vintage.
* One was gold plated and appeared "brand new".
* One (if not all) was a Gillette.
* They sold all there for $24. ($7,$7,$10)

It seems that the proprietors were a couple who bought all their merchandise from storage lockers. I have some knowledge of certain types of antiquities (not razors) and it was clear that these people had no idea what they had. Some stuff was overpriced while valuables were selling at a fraction of their worth.

Keep your eyes open for locker chasers.

At one point we've all missed out on great deals. It hurts, but you move on and learn to really keep your eyes open for the next great deal. Which will make finding it even more pleasurable.

My folks took a vaca to TN to visit some friends. While they were there they called me and told me about this antique store they went in with "loads and loads of old shaving stuff. Old shaving mugs, Old Spice, old straight razors. You would have loved it!". They ended up bringing back a like new Gillette Tech and a good condition '41 Milord. Both for $11.

I usually take vacas with them. This time I decided not to. I kicked myself after the phone call.
