Micromatic Clog Pruf opinions?

I just bought a micromatic off the bay, and I just wanted to hear your opinions on it. I've heard it was great for some and a face destroyer for others. Also, how does it compare to a 1912?

Thanks,

FoamFace

I find it more aggressive than the 1912, and a bit more awkward to use. The 1912 is just a really nice design. The OCMM and the Clogpruf are both great razors, no doubt. Well built and very pretty.

It's the best micromatic for my face, and the one that has stayed in my regular rotation. I have a 1912-type in my rotation as well. I get just about the same shave quality from each. It's just a matter of which you are personally more comfortable with.

All three Gem Micromatic models are marvelous, and they will last easily into the 22nd century. They are build like battleships. Literally.

Most shavers (including myself) rate them in this order:

Micromatic "Open Comb" made in 1929-1949 is the most aggressive. BTW its aggression can be tamed somewhat by shaving with SLOW strokes.
Micromatic "Clog Pruf" made in 1941-1949 is medium aggressive. This is my favorite one.
Micromatic "Flying Wing" informally aka "Bullet Tip" made in 1947-1948 is the mildest model.

All three are outstanding razors. I have the three, and I would never ever part with any of them.

As to shaving comfort and efficiency, I suppose I would rate the Clog Pruf as similar to the 1912 razors.

For me it yeilds a irritating shave result, for others it is the opposite. I love GEMS but not this one.

I'd agree with the above but for some reason I generally go for the 1912. My favorite of the Micromatic line is the "bullet tip". My preference has nothing to do with aggressiveness I just prefer the way it sits in my hand and the general look of the design.

I would say the MMOC is my favourite razor (tied with the R-41) and the Clog Pruf is close behind. If you find that open combs are too aggressive for you, its probably perfect.

Bumping this back up!

I tried the clog puff for the second time this morning. I find it to be smooth and easy to work with. I would reach for that one instead of the OCMM (or MMOC depending on how you call it).

+1

I actually found the Clog Pruf to be milder than the 1912, but I understand there are (at least) two different versions of the head on the Clog Pruf so that might explain that.

Mos, there are Clog-Pruf razors with 17 "teeth" and another version with 12 teeth. I am not sure which were the later models probably the version with 12 teeth?

The Clog-Pruf was my first SE, after acquiring and using about 7 DEs over a 6 month period. I find it to be excellent for myself. I was battling frequent irritation with DEs, regardless of razor/blade combinations. My first shave with the Clog-Pruf was my first TRUE irritation-free, BBS shave. But I can't compare it to other SEs, yet. I had my first shave with my MMOC today and it was equally perfect; I didn't really think the MMOC was that much more aggressive. I also have a G-Bar on the way so that I can compare them all. But I hope your SE adventure is as rewarding as mine has been.
