This was my first straight, and hasn't gotten much love since I was just starting--if nothing else, I figured that my early, hamfisted stropping had ruined the edge. Yesterday morning, I got a wild hair to revisit the Micheron; without any expectations, I gave it a few laps on a barber's hone, followed by a few with CroOx on balsa...and got perhaps the best shave of my life. Today was a repeat performance. It got me wondering about the razor's provenance.
I've never been able to find out much about Micheron razors in the past, but there's one on eBay France right now; it's clearly made by Le Grelot, with the characteristic rising sun motif on the shank. This makes me wonder if my razor is also a Le Grelot in disguise. The lines certainly look similar to some Grelots I've seen. Anybody have any input?
Whoever made it, it's my new favorite razor, and a reminder that after a solid year of straights, I'm learning every day.
