Just wanted to share my experience with the Merkur slant 39c sledgehammer from a newbie. Only a little over 2 months of DE shaving(long time wet shaver). Been getting some great advice on BnB and been listening to advices well, except for sticking with the same razor for awhile. Started with a Redtip, then a black beauty (long handle), 40'ss, 59 Fatboy, then my most recent merkur 39c (have a slim in cabinet in very good condition debating to sell in its case).
The Merkur 39c looks intimidating but like a beautiful woman if you know how to talk to her, you will be surprise how easy she is to talk to and how nice she is. Shave with it this am (astra sp) and what damn damn fine shave! a really close shave with just a little sting with alum bloc. My chin and mustache area has never been so easy to shave and smooth! Good prep and a proper lather with haslinger schafmilch soap gave me a really satisfying shave. If your debating on getting something a little different in you rotation, try a merkur 39c! will post later on my 1 week journey with the sledgehammer. I think the trick to DE shaving is to get a proper prep and lather and you will get a proper shave!
So happy with the sledgehammer that I have a merkur 34c HD brand new unused in box debating to trade for a 37c slant! if anyone is interested?
