Merkur Head Interchangeability & Open Comb Question

I would like to try an open comb razor. Here are my thoughts at the moment...

In addition to several vintage Gillette razors (several SSs, FB, Tech), a couple Lords, and a Feather Portable, I have a Merkur Classic 1904.

I am leaning toward the Merkur 11C, particularly if the head is interchangeable with the 1904. If it is, then I can do a mix-and-match between the handles and heads, giving me in effect four razors.

So here are my questions:

1) Are the heads interchangeable?

2) Is the head on the 1904 the same as that on the HD?

Thanks in advance.

The 11C is an AWESOME razor, but since the 11C is a two-piece instead of a three-piece the heads are not interchangeable.

Because of the 2 versus 3 piece design and the chrome (11C) versus nickel (1904) finish , they are not interchangeable per se; but the 1904 and 11C do indeed have the same head.

Rocketeer,

The handles for the three (3) piece Muhles & Merkurs all interchange.

I have a Merkur 1904, a Muhle R109 & a Muhle R41, and I frequently swap the handles about :001_smile

Have fun !

Best regards

Russ

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the Merkur OC was a two-piece.

RUSS: I don't know whether to thank you or curse you ... now you've got me leaning toward buying TWO Muhles rather than one Merkur! :sneaky2:

So many options, so little time ...

The 11C is a 2-piece but the 15C & 25C are 3-piece OC's with heads that fit the 1904 handle. It might not look great though since the 1904 has a nickel finish and the 15/25C are chrome finished.

The current Mühle OC head is identical to the Merkur OC head (just way better finished) and will fit the 1904 handle as well.
