Merkur HD how to take it apart?

short story:
need to take the head apart from the body.
how to do it?

long story:

My HD got damaged by dropping onto the flor and the comb is slightly "chipped"
I got in contact with merkur and they offered to replace the part for free, but mentioned I have to send it back.

here's the thing.
I'd like to save a few bucks, and ship it in a 2mm thick box, but the head is wider.

this wouldnt be a problem if the head could come apart from the body.
merkur mentioned they can do that with a tool and replace the head.
Can I do this myself somehow?

I doubt you could fix it yourself. I think it is better to send it over. Do you have some sort of special equipment or something? I would be so confident of changing the head of the HD myself.
You should send it to Merkur!

I would send it whole....that is what they are expecting. If they get something in pieces they may not touch it. You may do more harm taking it apart further.

You're only talking another buck or two here. Rather than fool around with the razor and risk making things worse, I'd just get a bigger package and send it back as is. What the heck, Merkur is going to send you a new razor anyway.

Try to take off the HD head piece bad. Not meant to come off. That will be breaking the razor. The only parts that anyone should take off are the top head piece and the knob for cleaning. Nice of them to help you since you broke it.

the head of the HD is pressure fitted, when they put it together in the facrory they'll have a tool which is specifically for putting heads on the razor. there's no way you'll be able to do it yourself.

Looks like the piece that holds the blade platform to the spindle is pressed on.
You could take a drift and try driving it out from the bottom, but your just as likely to crack the pot metal head.

Well I'm very disappointed of the comment before, I couldnt find a hacksaw at home, so I ended up using my chainsaw. but the HD broke in little pieces!
how can you give such bad advise!!
