Merkur bakelite blade exposure not even?

I just picked up a Merkur bakelite razor-only because it looked cool. While using it I noticed that it seemed more aggressive on one side than the other. On close inspection the gap between the guard and the blade is slightly larger on one side. The blade is square and the handle screwed firmly-not too tight as the female threads are just plastic (a real weakness in the design). Has anyone else noticed this? It is actually useful - you can use one side first and finish with the other or use either one depending on whim/need. It is almost as good as having a comb on one side and straight guard on the other-a design I always thought would be a good idea.
