Mentholated Soaps/Creams and scuttle

Ok, so I've been enjoying Mama Bear's Mandarin Ice for a little over a week now and couldn't be happier. I recently started thinking about upgrading my tupperwear lather bowl to a ceramic bowl or scuttle.

So, I'm wondering (and I think you know where I'm going with this) how many of you use mentholated products with your scuttle and does it defeat the purpose to apply a warm lather on your face that is designed to cool it off?! :001_huh:

I use GB Chilled Soap all the time with my Dirty Bird Schuttle and it has no affect. Even with the warm lather the cooling properties of the menthol soon shows up after applying the lather, especially on the second and third passes.
I have a tried a few other menthol soaps and creams and have found the same thing with those.

Menthol isn't 'cold', it's 'cooling'. It causes a chemical reaction on your skin that feels like cold, but doesn't have anything to do with heat or lack thereof.

I still heat up my mug when I'm using Prorasso, it does not take away from the cooling at all. If you want a scuttle, go for it. You might not always be using the menthol and it won't detract from it at all when you do.

Besides which, even if the menthol disguises the sensation of heat/warmth, hot water still helps soften the whiskers, does it not?

While I don't use it now, when I was in the Navy and in the Tropics, I did use metholated shaving cream. WWII vintage Destroyers didn't have air conditioning, and it was one way feel cool, at least for a short period of time. I still used hot water for pre-shave prep, and for lathering. It still felt cool after the shave, so my guess is that it would not be defeating the purpose.

Let's hear from some of the others on this topic.

I prefer using a Proraso-type menthol cream in the hot and humid weather when I'm not using hot water, YMMW though.
