I am a massive fan of Brut, I've loved it since I was a kid it is what a man smelled like when I was a boy. Thing is it seems to have something missing these days and I just can't figure it out. Now I have purchased quite a few variations of it in the last few months and IMO the newer versions just don't quite match my memory.
I have the Euro splash, a vintage American glass bottled after shave, a vintage British Brut 33 plastic bottle splash on, the current US Mexican made Eau de Cologne and also the Euro Eau de Toilette. They all smell slightly different to me. The vintage glass bottle seemed a bit spoiled to be honest, most of leaked in the post so I decanted the plastic bottle into it as i think that had suffered from being in plastic for so long. It's been in the glass a couple of months and the scent has improved but it's still missing something.
Both the sprays are pretty good but have none of the projection and longevity that I associate with the old Brut, perhaps I have a touch of OCD about the whole thing, and it wouldn't be the first time but I'd love to know if there's any other Brut obsessives on B and B who think the stuff out there just now doesn't quite live up to Brut of old.
As a side note in my unceasing quest to find my ultimate Brut I came across this little curiosity on German Amazon:
Has anybody seen or got this? It's called Essence de Brut and costs 69 euro for 35ml! I haven't been able to find it anywhere else and until I find out a bit more about it I'm unwilling to part with that sort of coin for such a small amount. Anyway thanks for reading about my eccentricities if I was to speak of this in the real world I fear my life may never be the same again!
