What's new

medium-heavily flavored pipe tobacco

I just started smoking a pipe and I'm really ignorant about pipe tobacco. I have a couple samples in the mail, but I bought an ounce of Wilshire from my local Tinderbox. It's not bad, but I'm looking for something with a little more flavor, but not tobacco flavor. The tobacco flavor in this isn't bad, but that's about all I taste. I don't want hookah tobacco (even though I love the heavily flavored hookah tobacco) but I would like something in between what I have now and that. I'm looking for something with a mild to medium tobacco flavor with about the same or a little less of whatever flavor is supposed to be in it (whiskey, vanilla, cherry, fruit, whatever).

Like I said, I'm brand new to this and I'm not sure what brands and blends I'm looking for. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest looking at Boswells blends. Raspberry Cream has become my favorite of theirs. You can still taste tobacco, but the raspberry does come through.

tobaccoreviews.com is a great resourse for looking into different tobaccos.

The best advice I could give is to check out tobacco reviews dot com. (work won't let me post the link). Keep in mind that pipe tobacco won't taste like it smells, and some aromatics will absolutely wreck your tongue, so just be aware. Explore some Latakia blends too, they smell like a campfire in the tin or pouch but are a very delicious smoke. There are a bunch of internet sources for purchase too, 4noggins, pipesandcigars, justforhim, smokingpipes, just to name a few. They'll also provide good descriptions of the blends.

The best thing I ever did was go to a tobacco shop where I could get advice and sample a little of this, a little of that.
Seems multiple trips would be needed so they don't all blend together on the pallet.

+1 on J.M. Boswell's. You can order an ounce of different blends if you want.

McClelland 2000 Fragrant Matured Cake. A solid virginia with a nice maple topping that comes through in the taste, yet not too strong.

Scotty's Butternut Burley is a good aromatic with plenty of sweet flavor also McClelland's Black Raspberry (best Raspberry IMO) and Just for Him's Blue Balls (best Blueberry IMO), I think you would like these Breadstick.

These all sound good. Is there any one place that sells all these?

Just for Him's blends are only available through their shop/web site the other two can be obtained through Pipes and Cigars.com
Blender's Gold Rich Vanilla is a good vanilla (better than some of the more expensive ones) which comes from Walgreens drug store.

I found Two Friends English Chocolate to be a pretty "medium heavy" flavor... but it put me off due to it's apparent high Vitamin-N content.

It is now reserved for the small Meer bowl and no longer used for the 60-90 minute drive home.

You ever try Boswell's Raspberry Cream?

Yeah, it's good but I still like Mclelland's Black Raspberry better, seems to have more Raspberry flavor IMO, may be the tobacco make up too, the Boswell's is Black & Gold Cavendish and the MC is just Black.
