MdC Fougere vs QCS Fougere

Speaking from a pure scent, and not performance aspect, are they pretty similar Fougere scents? Has anyone out there been able to compare them side by side?

I have. Had a sample of MdC (since Pif'ed) that I found to have a heavy citrus smell; and that was about all I could smell. Reminded me of bergamot or neroli, or perhaps citronella or lemon verbena. Have a sample of QCS fougere, which has the scent of a light Brut; very nice. I personally do not consider them similar. I would note that, from discussions on other threads, I am not typical in my reaction to the MdC.

John-

I'll ask. Can you offer observations as to performance? Clearly availability and price are significant factors.

I have used them side by side. For me, I'll take QCS croap all day, everyday.

MdC has a bit of what I would consider a spicy fougere scent, much more subdued than I'd like, balanced with that citrus smell that everyone remarks on. QCS is much more bold. Fills the room when you later it.

Performance wise it's still QCS for me. I have the lather so dialed in with it that it's automatic. Slick and protective. If I had a jar of MdC I'm sure I could get it there too.

I was going to get a jar of the MdC but after finishing my sample I think I'll continue to buy QCS only. MdC is good, but not good enough to get a full jar, IMO.

I only actually used the original MdC scented sample I bought from Gary's. Think that the scent had disappated (sp?) with age, so it was a very mild, herbal lavender/rosemary mix. Shave was super. Easy to lather, good shave, nice face-feel. I pif'ed the MdC fougere sample untouched because I knew how it would shave; only wanted to smell it. I think the QCS soap is easy to lather, gives a good shave, and has a nice face-feel, as well. My honest recommendation to you is to get samples of QCS and try to get a sample of an MdC to see for yourself how they work for you.

They're definitely not similar. To me, the QCS has hints of a powdery sort. I don't get the citrus scent in the MDC.

What makes it better?

I only used a Cayman for a bit in the hard soap, scent didn't do it for me. But between the soap and cream...I prefer the creams and they have stronger scents by nature I believe.

From what I understand, the Cream used to be the SOAP, until people started asking for a harder version.

Ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, lanolin are only in the hard soap and they make the skin feel AMAZING after shaving. I'll never go back...

I will agree that scents are stronger in the croap (as well as the menthol blast in the Vostok & Iced Key Lime scents).

Yep, the QCS is definitely a powdery fougere to my nose. Similar to Invasion Barbare or 1725 (Casanova) in that way. Not green like English Fern, and not green/spicy like Fougere Royale. Not what I was originally hoping for, but it grew on me and now I find it quite addictive.

Lanolin = deal breaker for me. If the hard soap is less aromatic, I'm good with sticking with the croap.

That's a +1 for me as well. I had a bad issue with MWF, and I'm thinking that the lanolin is the cause. Stronger scent and no lanolin means the cream/croap for me.

me 3. I wasn't trying to avoid lanolin when I had it, but I do now as I have had a few issues/irritation with it in shave products.

good thing is, the QCS Cream is top notch and I like the MdC Fougure...so Win Win.

I cannot comment on MdC Fougere, but I did just recently receive QCS Fougere and to my knowledge it was my first experience with a Fougere fragrance. To me QCS Fougere and RazoRock Fresco are very close with just a hint of difference. The Fresco has just a little sharper maybe even tart fragrance. The QCS is a little sweater, but more balanced. It reminds me of a very nice cologne. I am very glade I bought the QCS Fougere and I would not hesitate to buy more for myself of for friends.

Just noticed this morning that QCS Fougere soap's scent is very similar to Givenchy Gentleman edt; not exact, but in the same ball park.

I, too, have a bad reaction to MWF. However, it's not the lanolin, rather it's the fragrance oils. I definitely have no sensitivity to lanolin, but often react poorly to fragrance oils. With the unexplained exceptions of Proraso and VDH Luxury soaps, virtually all soaps and creams that use fragrance oils cause me some level of discomfort. Essential oils, to date, have not resulted in any problems.

Before you give up products containing lanolin, including excellent soaps and creams such as Musgo Real, RazoRock Karite, Insitut Karite, etc., ensure that you are actually sensitive to the lanolin and not other common ingredients.
