Mastering the Chubby 2

I recently picked up a Two Band Chubby 2 and have used it for 2 days now. Let me start by saying that this thing is a monster!! :taz: This thing is sooooo dense that wet or dry, if I push the hairs in one direction or another, they stay leaning in that direction. They don't center out. :w00t:

Here's where I need some guidance. I can't seem to master the water content for this brush. I shake it our 2 or 3 times after soaking it for a couple of minutes and water comes out, so it definitely holds water, but I still get very dry lather. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I've used it for 2 days with Tabac soap and it's my first 2 days using that soap as well, so maybe I need to do something with the soap.)

Is there something special that I should be doing with ol' Chubby here to make it all work in perfect harmony?

Thanks!!

Thats a great brush. Best or super either of the 2 ought to do a fine job.
I use a lathering pot and heres what I do
Try squeezing it out, then shake it more than a couple of times. Load it vigorously for 30 to 45 seconds untill it almost drags on the soap. Then go to work in your pot adding water every 15 to 20 seconds (I just dip my hand in the sink, (open) and drain it into my mix). Continue to do this (maybe as many as 3/4/5/6 times untill the lather suits you. If you bought your brush new this should work fine and you Will be happy. If purchased used, you may need to clean it first. In any case you have a fine brush but you need to load it well and discover your mix for it. The above method should ensure your success and lots of future wonderful shaves

Dry lather has nothing to do with the brush, just add a little water while building lather. Each soap requires a little or more water, you will figure this out with practice.

I found that I have best results with my chubby when I really load it up with soap. I charge it up with mor esoap than I would my less dense brushes. Water is added until I get the right lather.

So in addition to playing around with water, consider adding more soap/cream.

Thanks for all the replies. I always assumed that the brush would have enough water. I never considered adding more water while building the lather. I'll try that tomorrow.

I'd like to add that the super dense brushes really need to "break-in" before they start performing optimally. I would say 1 to 2 weeks of shaves before the brush breaks in. It will get even better over the next couple months. Just keep using it. As already suggested, use more soap to overcome the lather hogging behavior and just stick with it.

I am always saddened when I see one of these brushes for sale in the BST "used 3x" because the person never even got the brush broken in before they decided it wasn't for them.
