Man-U Synthetic brushes - a question.

Hello folks,

I'm trying to understand synthetic brushes a bit more before buying one for a friend who will not use animal hair. I have read the reviews and have decided on either a Mühle Silvertip Fibre or a Man-U.

I can't really see the answer to this from what I have read so.... what are the differences between the Premier brush and the DB Premier brush?

Thank you,

Mark

The Men U brush is a bit scritchier and doesn't make lather as easily as the Muhle's do. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Muhles are a bit cheaper as well.

Hello Dave,

Thanks very much for the help.

Do you happen to know the differences between Men-U's Premier and DB Premier brushes?

I have both a Men-U Premier and a Muhle HJM black fibre (but not a silvertip fibre). The Men-U is indeed likely to be much scritchier than the Muhle silvertip. In addition, the Men-U is a re-branded Omega--at a price of about $30+ more than the Omega equivalent! If you check out the Omega brushes at Connaught Shaving, take a look at the synthetic brushes in the 20 GBP price range: these will be (more or less) equivalents of the Men-U Premier at a much cheaper price (including with shipping), and mostly with better handles. Connaught also has excellent prices on the Muhle synthetics, silvertip and black fibre. The Men-U Premier brush performs well, IMO, but as a newbie my purchase of it, rather than a much cheaper Omega equivalent, was my big newbie goof.

That's interesting to hear about the Omega link. The clear/gold one appeals to me as being an attractive choice for a gift! I'll check them all over first, though.

Thanks for the help, Mandina.

Mark apologies. I've never heard of a DB Premier. I had the Premier and enjoyed it but PIF'ed it here. I still think the Muhles are closer to real animal hair brushes than any other synthetic.
