Mama Bear Shaving Sticks

I have never used these. Are they similar to the Tabac shaving sticks that one can find in Germany? I like the Tabac sticks, but they are severely overpriced in the US, at least at the places I've seen them. I'd like to find an alternative.

Lever,

You might want to try La Toja shave stick @ http://www.italianbarber.com as he is running a special for $4.99 per stick compared to $7.99. This stick just like Mama Bear are non tallow. La Toja is one of the best shave sticks you will find and it gets rave reviews here at B&B. If tallow is important to you then consider http://www.mystic4men.com/ as you can select the shave stick version in the drop down box. If you already have a shave stick container I would suggest ordering the shaving soap refill from Mystic Water and molding it into the container as you come out ahead price wise. In terms of Mama Bear I have never used any of her products, but she has a huge fan club here @ B&B an many consider her soaps to provide some of the slickest and protective lather that can be found with a huge selection of great fragrance and she will even customize a fragrance. Good luck with your choice and let us know how this story ends.

In terms of ingredients.

Granted Mama Bear (and Honeybee) are melt and pour shaving soaps with added glycerin while Tabac is a tallow soap they all work well for their intended purpose. A puck or stick of Tabac does cost more initially but when you work out the number of shaves that come from that higher priced puck or stick the cost comes to about the same per shave. The cheapest I have seen (and bought) Tabac was from Connaught (www.connaughtshaving.com), I paid approximately $12 plus shipping for a "refill" puck. I can say that Honeybee is also an excellent shaving soap (with excellent customer service) from experience and the stick container is more convenient than Tabac's or Mama Bear's. I haven't had the chance to try Mama Bear's soaps but know that the owner is also excellent to deal with and many here speak highly of her products.

I think you will be happy with whatever you choose to purchase. If you need samples both Mama Bear and Honeybee sell them and Garry's Sample Shop sells grated Tabac from time to time. IMO it would be worth trying all three plus maybe Arko and Palmolive.
