Dove MEN+CARE 3-N-1

I picked up one a few weeks back with activated charcoal. I haven't had a chance to try it as a shave soap yet though.
I've not tried that one.

Be warned. That one will stain your wash cloths. I couldn't get it to lather for shaving.
If you feel real adventurous you can mix some Dove 3 in 1 with GrandPa's Pine Tar soap and smell like a camp fire. 😁

I used GrandPa's Pine Tar shampoo for years. I rather liked the smell and it worked very well.

It is certainly great bath soap. The LOTH is not a huge fan when I use it though since you smell like you returned from a good ol' bonfire. I like the smell as well. I have a few bars of it at home. I have not tried the Pine Tar Shampoo though. Might have to now. People swear by that Pine Tar helps with all kinds of skin issues/ailments.

Dove Men Care 3-in-1 is my everyday body soap. As others have mentioned, it combines well with other cheap soaps to make an excellent shaving soap. I grate and mix equal parts Arko, VDH Luxury, and Dove Men Care 3 in 1 Extra Fresh, and I find it very, very good. I find that Arko produces a stable lather, VDH helps with post-shave feel, and Dove provides excellent slickness and volume.

That is a great combination and likely very similar to what I would do for a custom blend should my reserve of Williams shaving soap ever get exhausted. Also the use of VDH Luxury, with its added glycerin, instead of the VDH Deluxe in my blends likely enhances overall slickness. Note that VDH also provides a superlathering benefit that was the main reason I started mixing it with grated Williams five years ago in my first blends.

Do you grate the Arko and Dove and then melt the VDH before mixing it in?

I've also found that my blended pucks get better when aged 6+ months. My last blend, from September of 2022, produce five 3 oz. + pucks. Over a years supply of shaving soap. Shortly after blending I added a number of commercial soaps to my rotation with the result that this blend is only used 1-2 times a week. With aging these seem to have further blended into a single consistent color and texture with individual grated flakes no longer visible. Lather quality is more consistent. On a freshly blended puck it took a shave or two (melted VDH has coated other ingredients) to realize the full benefit of the blend. Recently started one of these two year old pucks and lather quality was excellent and consistent from the first shave.

I'm guessing that residual moisture in the blends (VDH is around 40% humectants) enables further mixing of the components over time.

I'm using up some old Schick Hydro Sensitive cartridges, and today I used the Dove 3-N-1 bar as a shave soap. I didn't use a bowl or brush or anything; I just lathered it on my hands and massaged it into the skin. No complaints: For me the 3-N-1 works very well as shaving soap.

I haven’t used it to shave, but I do lather off of a Dove Sensitive bar with a shave brush and wash my face with it. I can easily see the lather working alright for shaving or even as a good pre shave soap.
