Majestic -- Vulcanized (Not Set) In Rubber

I've seen plenty of brushes labeled "set in rubber", but this is the first one I have come across in which the knot was "vulcanized in rubber". The "set in rubber" type of epoxy is very brittle and pretty easy to drill out, but this one got gooey as it heated up when the Forstner bit hit it, and let me tell you, the aroma was anything but pleasant. Nonetheless, I got it cleaned out, put fresh paint on the bottom part of the handle, and set in a new 20mm TGN Finest fan shape knot.

The performance truly lives up to its name.

I have restored several handles with that gooey glue (epoxy, rubber, whatever??) stuff setting the knot. You're right--it clogs up my tools and smells just awfull when it heats up. It's a real pain to get out of there because it liquifies when it heats up and just sloshes around inside the handle.

Excellent work. Beautiful brush.

Note to self. Don't buy vulcanIized handle to restore.

I think I may also take that note to heart.
