Magazine St Barber Shop

Wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but heck, why not the "Barber Shop."

I moved to New Orleans a few years ago and have been searching for a GOOD traditional barbershop for men. Now mind you, there are barbershops in the greater New Orleans area. However, most of these guys are so old they look like they're going to keel over any minute, or they're simply just not good barbers that could care less if you walk in their shop or not. So after a while of searching I decided to just go to the "Super Fantastic Mega Cuts" down the road from where I live. Which is a soul draining experience for me.
The other day I was walking down Magazine St with my girlfriend and saw what appeared to be a traditional barbershop and decided to give it a shot.
So I went yesterday and I'm sold. It's a small shop with two chairs, but everything is old school. A lot of conversation about politics, sports and women, just as a barbershop should have. AND they serve drinks. Coke, whiskey, coffee, whatever you like. Not quite as extensive a drink selection as my barber back home, but respectable nonetheless.
Long story short, it was the best haircut I've had since moving to N.O., and it was very relaxing and reassuring to have it done in an honest to God, real barbershop.
So if any of you guys are in the greater N.O. area do yourself a favor and give this place a try.
Oh, they also do shaves for those interested.

that sounds like a cool place, you should have taken a few pics and told the guys where you were going to post it...

Where on Magazine? Sounds like Aiden Gill but that doesn't feel right.

Having been to Aidan Gill and being sorely disappointed our hotel concierge recommended the barber shop at the Monteleone Hotel, 625 Bienville St.

It is a great shave. Every time we're in New Orleans I go there every morning. Give Pat a call and he will schedule your safe.

Are you referring to Aidan Gill for Men?
No, he is referring to Aidan Gill's competitor "The Magazine St. Barber Shop."

I'm a New Orleans native and was looking around for old school barber shops and the two names that kept coming up were Aidan Gill and Magazine St. Barbershop. I went to Aidan Gill yesterday afternoon to shop for shaving cream and was very impressed by their selection. I have yet to have a haircut or shave at either barbershop but I hear they are amazing.
