Madras

One of the best parts of summer is Madras. It comes late in Massachusetts and Labor Day will be here in the blink of an eye. Enjoy it while you can. I will!

I think I was about 8 years old when madras henley shirts were all the rage. That was about 52 years ago. Madras always reminds me of summer.

Oh heck yeah! Madras sports coats, too. For that matter, Madras ties.

One Madras clothing item worn at a time, of course!

The word should have initial cap though, right, because a proper noun place name--the city now named Chennai. I think the American pronunciation of the Madras as a reference to a type of textile is different from the way the Indian's would pronounce the place name in English.

Anyone havve a good source for bleeding Madras--fabric or clothing? I wax nostalgic for real bleeding Madras--I think it ends upp looking far nicer than the modern colorfast fabrics, eh?

Vintage Gant authentic bleeding Madras is awesome, I always keep an eye out on the 'bay and thrift shops. The fit is just right and it looks like more expensive modern bleeding madras.
Bass outlets also carry a great variety of madras shorts during the summer, I usually stock up at the end of the Summer when they have crazy sales.

Oh yes, the Madras tie is a summer time staple. I'm not sure I could pull off a Madras sports coat. I'm a big guy. All that plaid would make people dizzy.

Most, if not all, Madras you find these days is colorfast. Bleeding Madras will bleed each time you wash it, producing a new look each time you wash it.

IIRC - you could try to set the dye by soaking the shirt in cold salt water. I never tried because you actually want the shirt to bleed. And I only had one or two.
