Mad Men Season 6

Is anyone else excited for the upcoming season of Mad Men? The official Mad Men page on Facebook posted this season 6 poster today:

YES!!! I thought last season left a lot to be desired. I'm still a mad man though. Favorite all time scene was when they had the lawnmower in the office. Completely unexpected outcome. It was shocking and funny all at once.

I'm really looking forward to it, too, though I'm going to miss Lane Pryce.

A lot of the stuff my cable provider offers is free on their On Demand programming. I luckily stumbled upon Mad Men while they were in the middle of showing seaon 4, so got to finish "catching up" with the latter part of 4 and they are now showing season 5 (just watched episode 8 tonight) so I'll be quite refreshed on the series when season 6 begins next month.

Although I can't quite put my finger on why, I would be pleased to not see so much of Don's new wife Megan in the upcoming season.

I'll watch it but the premier will need to be hit out of the park to get me excited for the rest of the season. This big of a gap between seasons has really quelled my excitement for the series.

That poster was drawn by Brian Sanders, who was an ad illustrator from the 60's and one of Matthew Weiner's inspirations for the show.

I'm a huge fan of Breaking Bad, Justified, Homeland, and others and yet whenever I start watching the season premiere of Mad Men, its a completely different experience. No other show puts as much thought into its writing and direction as Mad Men. It reminds me of The Sopranos in that way, an old school "auteur" approach. The other shows are linear and obviously tell their stories in incredible fashion, but Mad Men strives for something more than just a narrative.

This is also one my favorite annual traditions regarding Mad Men: trying to parse out the ads!
