What's new

Loving Crabtree & Evelyn!

Can't say enough about how good (and well priced) these soaps are. They smell great, lather great, and offer decent moisture. I think they compare very well to Mitchell's Wool Fat, Tabac, TOOBS, and many other good soaps.

A fine old firm that has earned its reputation. I may buy one of their brushes soon...and likely some other things I had no idea I can no longer live without.

Your thread prompted me to check the company's wikipedia entry. Pretty interesting. C&E is owned by a Malaysian company now, though it began in 1973 in Cambridge, MA. Bankruptcy last year was resolved early this year. I thought they were a British company, too.

I was given the Sienna SS after the GF took a trip to Denver. I don't know if it's the scent I would have chosen, heck I don't even know what any of the rest of the line smells like, but it has grown on me. The only reason it has had the chance to grow on me is because the performance it outstanding! The wooden bowl looks very nice at well. At those prices, I can try them all, bowl included:thumbup:

Fine products. I used the C&E Sandalwood soap this morning. Considering them as comparable to MWF and Tabac is a stretch but serviceable soaps and creams for sure. I like the Senna line and lament the passing of the Sweet Almond Oil line which was by far my favorite Almond scent. I hope the new owners have the good sense to re-institute that line of products.

I love the nomad and sandlewood soaps. Hands down my favorite sandlewood. TOBS sandlewood smells really bad next to the C&E. Sienna is nice, but probably my least favorite out of the three.

C&E is really underrated. Its great stuff for the money too. I think Sienna might be my favorite, though I am using Nomad soap and A/S at the moment because I was given a bunch of it and my SO (and others) really like it.

I also have their bar soap (Nomad) and a bottle of their West Indian Limes body wash - also fine products.

About the whole British thing -- they look British in their packaging and advertising, and they even smell British. Or at least, they do not smell american or Italian, or French. They have that reserved, not iver-done, old world scent, which I totally love.

I wish they would make aftershave slpashes, but having said that they make some of the better balms that I have ever used.

I really like Sandalwood SS, but is not on the same league as MWF/Tabac/Palmolive in terms of protections to the skin

I was at the local mall today picking up something for my girlfriends birthday and stopped in to C&E to put my nose to all 3 or 4 of their soap scents.

I can honestly say that I can't stand any of them, found them all repulsive. Nomad, Sienna, and whatever the other ones are. Couldn't get them away from my face fast enough.

Very nice packaging though, gorgeous soap bowls

I agree. I too have been using C&E Sandalwood. What a great scent. I have also found that eshave soaps are really great. I particularly love the lavender scent...mmmmmmm manly!:001_cool:

Lavender has been my favorite ever since I started shaving (almost fifty years ago). At that time, Yardley was still going strong. They had wonderful lavender soap bowls, and their lavender aftershave was the best I have ever had.

D.R. Harris is quite good also. I put their soap refills in my old Yardley bowl... .

Cheers,
Phil

I like my Nomad puck a lot. The scent is something special; I like to take a sniff every so often when I pass the bathroom. I had a chance to sniff some Sienna and liked that a lot, too. Maybe even more than Nomad, but both smell great.

My Nomad performs fine. Nice, easy, thick lather. I have to say, though, that Tabac makes a superior lather: fattier, slicker, and more protective. And Cella is even better, a nice step up from Tabac. I haven't tried MWF, but I understand it's in the same league as Cella: top tier. I don't think C&E Nomad is in that class, but it's a great performing soap that has a very attractive scent. Great performance for a soap that doesn't have the cushioning benefits of tallow or lanolin. There are better performing soaps, but I would get more C&E for the scents.

I've said this before. After we start wetshaving, we become so picky as to our soaps and creams that we have forgotten just how bad canned goo was and how happy we were when we started using our first soap or cream. All this talk about top tier soaps shows it. If anybody thinks that whatever soap they are using isn't great, go back and shave with canned goo for a month then use that soap again. Granted, your shaving techniques have improved but has the canned goo?
I haven't used the C&E soaps but I have used the creams, Sandalwood and Nomad. And those are far superior to any canned goo out there.

I've only used the C&E Sandalwood (soap in wooden bowl) and whilst it doesn't give as great a shave as MWF or Palmolive...the scent combined with a decent performance keeps it in my regular rotation! :thumbup1:

I'll back up your kudos to C&E!

I have two bowls of C&E Sandalwood (so glad now that I bought two) and a refill puck of Nomad. One of these days I'll pry the unused Sandalwood out of its dish for the Nomad puck to get out.

I try to shave every time with the C&E Sandalwood. I've turned into a superlatherer just to allow me to use some of my new creams while still using the C&E!

Anyone wanting to support C&E and impress the wife, check out the C&E Rosewater EdT for the ladies. I got it locally for $28 (large bottle) and it smells great. Wife and I both love it! :)

I've never used any of their shaving products, but I have shaved using C&E hair conditioner! Tried it in a hotel when I had nothing else to use and the blade glided over my face effortlessly.
