Love my 1904!

Hey guys...no question here. Just felt like posting how much I love my brand new Merkur 1904 open comb. It's the first OC DE that I have ever used and I am loving it! The handle and overall look I think is pretty cool, and the OC gives me a great shave with as little as 2 passes, though I usually go for 3 passes unless in a rush. I tend to have a thicker beard....loaded up with a Feather blade does an awesome job. I will want to play around with different blades, but so far I am really enjoying this DE. Seems to do a better job for me than my HD, Slant, or Super Speed. If anyone is thinking about trying one, I for one say go for it - it might just be what you've been looking for.

ps - I do think the OC looks cooler than the standard full safety bar....just sayin'

I was sad to sell off my 1904 OC. One of the nicest razors I had ever owned. The shave was too mild however, and thus, she moved onto a good home.

I own both a slant and a 1904. Though I like them both for different reasons, there is absolutely no way that I could say the 1904 is more efficient than my slant. The 1904 is much more of a mild shaver but is quite gentle on the skin. The Slant is also gentle on my skin (not quite as gentle as the 1904) but is much more efficient at getting the whiskers off.

Just to be clear, the 1904 is capable of taking off multi day beard growth. I've personally used it for that. The slant just does it easier and gets me to BBS in less passes. Not that BBS is the "be all and end all". I would say a comfortable shave is more important. I do really like my 1904, especially after putting a heavier handle on it. It is one of my favorite razors.

I bought the 1904 OC as my first OC razor. I was a little disapointed after using the Gillette short comb NEW. But after fitting the head to a Weber bulldog handle it's in the same ball park as the NEW IMHO. In a funny way for me the Merkur 11C is a kinda cross between the NEW and the 1904. It has the short handle, good shave, good weight and all the newness. Who knows why Merkur stopped making the 11C.

I have just acquired a 15c which I think I am correct in saying is the same head with a different handle. It is my first OC and it shaves like a dream. I haven't used my slim since getting it, and probably won't for a long time!
