What magnification is good for checking my edge? I see some on Amazon at 30X is that good? Then you have those that you wear and the ones you hold in your hand. Which works best? Any ideas will help.

this is pretty bad scope, I have one and it can't even remotely compare to what you get from this one:

you will need to focus at first in something else. then check the edge using that scope.

I have one of those and I hate it. Very small field of vision which is made worse by the fact that everything is reversed.
There are some really inexpensive ones in the 60x range with LED light on the bay as well. At least the field of view is bigger.
If you want a loupe, this one is good for the money. Closed, it covers the lens and keeps dust out. Slide it open and an led light comes on illuminating the edge or whatever you're looking at. I keep one in my pocket when I go antiquing. The light is an absolute must-have for dark shops with few windows.

Thanks guys so it looks like anything with at least 30X magnification should work right?
Some of us are using the 60X ebay jobs with great success. For $5 they are about the best buy on the net!
My experience:
I am using a 20X loupe which cost $1.97 from DigiKey. I can't get it to stay in my eye socket without using my hands. The backwards image does make it awkward to use. Focal length is really short, so keeping a loupe in your eye and examining a straight razor means a risk of cutting your nose.
That $5 scope looks way better than three times as good as my $2 scope.
Also, when the edge you are examining is right up against your face, it is hard to get the light to fall on the right spot.

Ok, i've been looking at these on ebay but they all seem to be coming out of Hong Kong. Is this were you guys are getting them?
Its probably a week to ten days from hong Kong.
