If my post count is not indicative of my experience, I'm sure my question surely will compliment my competence.
I originally thought I was going to use astra sp's as my gauge to learn from and compare other blades to because they seem to be almost unanimously loved. I have went through a couple to only find they pulled, didn't cut my hair very well, and didn't not last too long. I understand technique, lather, and prep contribute to a great shave but my gut was telling me this blade just didn't like me for some reason.
I read somewhere that treets are very sharp and good but don't hold an edge because they are a carbon blade. I went to my sample pack to discover I had the platinum coated ones. I tried it, HATED it and switched after the first wtg for a astra, just because I knew what to expect.
I then decided to pick apart my sample pack that was going to wait (who was I kidding?) Until I got a grasp at shaving. I figured I would use a feather next, until I read a few people talking about the bic blade being as sharp as a feather but much smoother. This obviously peeked my interest because I had a big in my sample pack. I used it today, after not shaving for 3 days and it was incredibly different than the astras. I had less razor burn, my second pass of wtg barely cut anything besides some hair I missed on the first pass and my 3rd pass (xtg) gave me an incredibly close shave and I was happy with just that.

Having said that I think I found my new "standard" which I will compare other blades to. Herein lies my question... what other blades are as sharp and smooth as this blade? I have a feather I will try to compare it to but am curious of others. I have read if you like bics you should like the black 7 o' clocks. I'm not looking for input on how one person likes one blade vs the other but simply looking to find out which blades are very sharp and very smooth. Seems my face likes this type of blade.
Once I get my post count up and am eligible I will have a pretty sweet deal for those who are interested in my remaining astras. I know I will not use many more of them and would rather trade or sell or give them away to someone who likes them.
I know the whole ymmv thing but hopefully someone can give some good advise on other possible sharp and smooth blades. My feelings would not be hurt if the bics are best for me, just don't want to settle if there are even better blades out there for me.
Thank you all for reading.
