looking for advice - synthetic brush

I have been using some cheap and nasty synthetic brush while travelling, I picked it up from Target in the US, and cost next to nothing.

I like synthetic because it's easy to through into a plastic bag and put back into the travel shave kit and don't need to worry about smelling, rotting, etc.

Trouble with my Target special is that it's got no backbone at all, the more it's loaded the worse it is and I think it's getting worse!

At home I use an Omega Pro 48, and I really like it.

Can anybody recommend a synthetic brush which is similar(ish) to the Pro 48?

I have no experience with the Omega, but I do have a little experience with synthetics. The Body Shop's is decent, has good backbone (almost too much), and the tips are decently soft. I feel it's a little scratchy, but loads well. I also have a Whipped Dog synthetic. It's one of my favorite brushes. Loads well and whips up quick.

Thanks for this.. looking on the Bodyshop site, it seems there could be some issues with their brush handle splitting. I will have a look at the whipped dog though..

The Body shop brush is a great litle and cheap brush. It pushed me to get a 'proper' travel synht brush. I went with the FS faux horn tubby synth from last year. Soft, loads of back bone and lathers mostly anything like crazy. It was the price for me, here in the UK. Dont be fooled by the FS synth, It's a good quality brush IMHO.

Thanks for the reply.. this might be (another) dumb question from me... who is the maker FS?..

My Frank's "Generation 2" synthetic has more backbone than my recently acquired Muhle v2 ("Generation 4"). The Gen 4 has softer tips and holds some water; indeed it does come closer to replicating the feel of a soft badger. But it's a somewhat floppier brush.

The closest in terms of behaving like a boar with Generation 3 fibers is the Kent Infinity. In my view Kent designed this to mimic a boar while other manufacturers are trying to mimic badger.

I use a Muhle silvertip fiber version 2.0. Nice backbone, very soft, works wonderfully. I got mine from Connaught Shaving with the olivewood handle (traditional handle).

The Bluebeards Revenge Vanguard Synthetic shaving brush is good.

Gotta go a long way to beat the Muhle V2. But, don't pass over the Omega Hi Brush either. I have both and (especially bang for the proverbial buck) the Omega does a really nice job. You really should take a look at them.

Another vote for Frank Shaving synthetics. I have 2 and love them.

Went through a couple of the Body Shop brushes. They were on the small side, okay for travel. One shed and fell apart fairly quickly. The other one held up and is still standing by for travel duty.
