Looking for a new brush

Hello gents.

I've been wet shaving for about 6 months now, and i'm loving it.
I'm still using the cheap brush I got free when I ordered and decided it's time to get an upgrade.

I'm looking to spend about 20-25 pounds on a brush.
I'm like to face lather and I mainly stick to creams.

I'll be buying from here

Any recommendations?

Niall

I was recently searching for an inexpensive brush option to get my brothers started with DE shaving. At the time I was kind of set on pure badger, but after numerous recommendations from other B&B members, I got them Semogue 1520s. On my second break-in cycle, I used one for my morning shave, and I was very impressed. They are supposed to get better with use, so I would definitely recommend this option, if you're looking for a great lather without the monetary commitment. I actually just started a thread in which I plan to chronicle my experience during the break in period- check it out, if you're interested in further info in the days to come.

Here's a little teaser trailer (just a pic really) for you. :)

I've recently purchased the smaller (19mm knot) version of this brush and I have been enjoying it greatly.

There is a decent review of this brush: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/320340-Muhle-Silvertip-Fiber-my-only-brush
That bush looks great. I'll have a look into it. I just have to decide on what size id like. I don't want anything too big.

I'm liking the price of these brushes. This burts is under 10 pounds in the uk. Is it worth spending the extra to get a badger brush?

Try one of these in Finest. Very nice, and not too expensive.

Thanks for the link. But unfortunately they won't ship to the U.k

Badgers are nice brushes. I have only owned a couple of badgers, so my experience with different brushes is limited. To compare badger and boar, it really depends on what you're looking to spend. You could get a better badger for more money, but for the price range of the lower priced Semogues, I have to agree with the recommendations given by other members- you probably won't find a decent badger brush to compete with the Semogues in that low price range. At that low of a price you'll suffer lower quality in a badger brush. If you're looking to spend in the vicinity of 31 GBP (approximately $50 USD), you could probably find a decent badger. I spent about $15 USD (about 9 GBP) on each of my Semogue 1520s. Good luck, and please let us know what you decide.

Oh, and I would personally go for a Semogue, knowing what I know now. It's a great brush for a great value.

I find the 19mm to be perfect. Others like the 21mm. Anything larger is just for show :001_smile

Boar brushes take a while to break in but once broken in they are nice brushes.

Badgers do not require any break in period and they do not change the way they perform after time like Boar brushes do

The Synthetic will also NOT change the way it performs as it ages.

I think I'll go with the Semogue 1520. I really can't argue at that price.
I can also try out a new cream of after balm with the money left over :)

Thank you guys. You've been a great help.

EDIT: Is there a way of thanking posts?

Don't know about thanking posts, but I just PM'ed you. Check it out before you order, if possible.
