What's new

Look what I got. Fuller Shave Kit?

I went to my local crack(antiques) dealer today. Hoping to find a new razor for me to bring home to the others. I didn't find any razors in my price range or ones that I liked (even out of price range). But I did come across this Fuller Shave(brush?) Co. shave kit.. Included was this Scuttle, puck of soap, and brush. I can't tell what kind of bristles they are, or anything.. I don't know the age.. it was a Never used kit, the box WAS still in tact but the vendor that owned this particular item wasn't there so the box was no where to be found. Once the vendor brings it in I'll have that too.. It looks nice and I picked it up for $20. Anyone have any ideas as to age or other info?

Help? Thoughts?

Definitely the score of the month. Personally I would give it a bit of time before you do anything with the kit. Intact and unused shave kits are pretty rare. I would not even attempt any brush lathering tillnyou determine what type of hair it is. Dried boar can snap like twigs. Mayhaps someone can shed some light on it. I found a Fuller badger hair brush at antique store and it is well made. I don't know how popular they are with collectors.

Cheers, Todd

I know I should wait on using it at all, but its so hard! Although, I'll definitely wait.. I better buy another brush or something to keep me busy until I find out about that one haha. Hope I get some answers soon! :)

The Fuller brushes pull in decent though not exorbitant prices on eBay. Fuller made quite a variety of Lucite brushes. I've got one or two around here somewhere. I'm partial to the Lucite handles.

If you decide to re-knot the brush, be very careful. Those metal rings are killers.

I'd actually really love to re-knot it.. I love the handle.. I need to do a lot of research on re-knotting though. Is it difficult in general to do?

You know Slim, the idea of re-knotting is good. Boar typically does not bring premium prices but as you mention the handle is a beaut. I am unsure about those metal rings the other poster mentioned but you can bet there is something to it. Best of luck.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but while the brush looks like a vintage Fuller Brush Co. handle, I don't think it's actually Fuller Brush Co.. Every one I've ever seen is engraved on the bottom as Fuller Brush Co., also, during no part of the companies history that I'd seen while researching did they have any factory in Germany. They've always been American made from what I could tell. I've been looking for a nice vintage Fuller Brush Co. handle to restore myself.

Still an awesome kit and a great score for sure. The scuttle alone would be worth what you paid in my opinion.

It appears you are correct... hmm once I get the box from the vendor I'll post a pic of it. I just remember she kept saying it was a fuller brush.. But she could be dead wrong lol. Hopefully getting the box from the shop this week or early next week.

Like I said tho, still an awesome score. I love that brush handle, and the scuttle. I'd have paid that for those two things, no matter the name one them. :)

I agree, I really like it either way. I just really want to know what I can about it. I've actually seen it in the shop 3 or 4 times and always put it down. Glad I snagged it this time. As far as the scuttle goes; I don't know how to go about using it? theres no room in it to build lather.. Just a place I could put half a puck of soap.

I always thought that style was more of a brush scuttle. Hot water in the bottom to soak your brush in, and then the bit with the three holes to rest it in between passes.

keeps the lather brush warm, and keeps water from accumulating under it. Makes sense.
