I looked at a inflation calculator. $1 in 1946 is equal to $10.76 today. I'll let someone else do the math, it has been a long day.
so what you are saying is everyone back then complained about the price of blades like we do cartridges now...

Yep. DE blades used to be quite expensive, and if I remember all those old shaving ads correctly they were always $1.00. Even in back when Gillette first released their razor to the market in the early 1900's the blades were a buck.

BTW, I had some NOS Blue blades that were still sealed in cellophane. I tried one and it was the worst blade I ever used. I'd rather use Dorcos.

I know this is an old thread but it's interesting to me.

This is something I never really thought about and it is kinda amazing.

If one was somewhat poor economically and liked being clean shaven you can be sure that they made the most out of each blade and/or maybe shaved just 2 or 3 times a week. The early days of DE razors must of been really attractive to men who had the money to do it....

The fancy razors in cases back then were probably way way out of reach dollar wise to the common man.

Kinda similar to a person on a tight budget nowadays who is compelled to use disposables or who (hopefully) have discovered the joy and money saving benefits of this hobby.

Just some of my thoughts on this.

What do you guys think about this...?

Feel free to give input, maybe I can learn more from the other experienced shavers here!

I believe the double ring sets originally went for $5.00 in 1904 which is around 128.00 in today's dollars per various internet sources. That's a razor and 10 or 12 blades I think. For a working class person, that's a noticeable expenditure, but not hopelessly out of reach unless you're really living on the edge. You also have to factor in the savings in cash and time from not going to the barber for a shave every few days. It's certainly more expensive than the bargain razors you see today, but not bad compared to the modern high end razors.
