What's new

Little did I know what I was missing

Since I started DE shaving, I have been using the VDH Boar Brush that came with the Kit purchased at Wal-Mart. I've been thinking of getting a new "better" brush considering that brush I had seemed to be considered of low quality.

Now, I didn't really know how to decide what brush I wanted, so from the advice of the people here on B&B, I contacted Rudy for one of his brushes.

I believe it is a 2-band finest Badger Brush.

I received the brush today and when time came for me to shave (to get ready for an interview no less), I grabbed the new brush (of course - who wouldn't?)

My mouth started watering (so-to-speak) at the way it handled in comparison over the brush I had been using.
The way it picked up soap and how it looked on the brush
The way it felt on my face lathering it up
The way it built lather rather than spread soap around

I would have to say that I would imagine I used at the very most - half of the soap I normaly would be using with the old VDH Boar brush

After shaving, if it wasn't that I need to finsh getting ready to leave, I would have felt like making another lather - Not that I needed too - just wanted too. I can't believe I missed out on such a good brush for so long (been really only about 5 months)

Now the delima here. . . .What to do with the old Brush. I don't really want to simply toss it out, but I don't know that I am going to use it again either. Also, I don't really expect I would give it to anyone because it would be far better for someone to get a better quality brush.

I'd say keep the old VDH brush in the med cabnent and when you happen acros it again you'll remember how much you like your Rudy brush.
I still have my VDH that I've never jused after getting a badger brush. Though I didn't use it for 9 mo!:w00t:

I never used a VDH boar brush. Three weeks ago I bought, what I thought was a good condition, used one at a yard sale for fifty cents. I brought it home and sterilized it and tried to use it. The boar hairs started coming out in clusters at a time. I liked the dark green color and the shape of the handle so I ordered one of Tony's (TGN) boar hair replacement knots. I now have nice boar brush that works almost as well as my Omega 31064. I plan to use it in my shave kit. If I lose it I will not be out much, but the performance is there.

I have the same problem. I bought a VDH brush to use as a travel brush and then realized it was just crap. It cost me less than a bottle of Gatorade and I want to throw it away, but I can't bring myself to pitch a brush, even when I know I'll never use it again.

PIF it to a new guy or sell it on b/s/t for the cost of shipping :thumbup1:

Yep . . . That's it. Thanks for uploading the Pict Rudy.

With me working Nights and sleeping during the day, I don't get much of a chance to spend on the home computer anymore. About 10-15 minutes is about it, until the weekend. Most of that time is spent going through emails and such. I hadn't had time to get the picts up yet.
