What's new

Lets talk Brushes , I have a Rooney and ....

I am thinking of returning it . It is a 1/2 in best badger and has been shedding for a week but less now 3 or 4 hairs . I have come to understand that the beautiful rooney 's are wonderful in supper badger . I payed about $70.00 for mine and don't wont to spend a lot more for a super .
So I have an opportunity to get something els that might be better in this price range or there about . I would pay more for a great used brush .
I have heard that the simpson brushes hold up very well and are less scrubby ( in rooney B/B) but have v/good back bone , this is what I am looking for .
can we talk about the different characteristics of different brushes .
I am new to this hobby and think I would like a soft but not floppy brush good for soaps also fine for creams , and fit nicely in a smaller hand.
A simpson Tulip ??
or Duke ?? I think I would like a medium to smaller brush w/lots of control . I don't have a collection to try and would rather spend on one great brush .
An Edwin/J ??
Please help , Thank you .
Alex

What is your budget?

You are sounding like a vulfix or Savile Row ... if you want a less expensive softer brush. There are some good values there in silver tip.

I almost always suggest a silver tip in Rooney though if you can swing it.

It's quite common for dense brushes to shed, as loose hairs come out with first uses. If it continues for another week or more, that's the time to check whether it's a dud.

A Semogue boar can be softer than Best badger, but with plenty of backbone. Budget less than half of your $70.
