What's new

Lest we forget

I was listening to a national radio talk show at lunchtime today. A caller was relating to the host's recent trip to Normandy, and mentioned that his father was part of the D-Day invasion force. When his father died, the man received his Journal and Fountain Pen. The very combo that the father used to record his experiences during the war. How cool is that?! Unfortunately, the nature of the show is political and not really related to fountain pens, so that's as much detail as I learned. I just wanted to relate the little story.

I plan on gifting my sons with "keep this, to remember me" pens (& razors, &c), and hopefully have the opportunity to hand some in person to grandkids as well. I doubt I'll have anything in my life as impressive as storming the beach on D-Day ... thankfully; I wouldn't wish that on anyone ... but hopefully they'll still be meaningful.

I use my Grandfather's straight and DE to shave, and wish I had a fountain pen that he used. My son's are already fighting over who get's my toys when I die, lol.

My wife and I are planning on helping my grandmother clean and organize her house sometime soon (it's pretty clean, but she has a lot of stuff just shoved away). She think that my grandfather (a school teacher and principal in his day) had some pens shoved away. I'm hopeful.
