Leather Maintenance

Good day to all,
Gentlemen I've seen some where in here that use of Leather cleaner/Conditioner products is not good for a leather.
I would like to know more about that!!
(Of course before that I ordered a lanolin based such product
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horsemans...288?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27d5054688)

I have noticed most neatsfoot oil products are blended with mineral oil . Is it good to use one of them or do I have to use a pure neatsfoot oil on leather.

Thanks

I've heard just about every theory on leather care on the internet at one place or another ... someone out there will explain to you why ABC is totally the worst thing you can put on leather, and XYZ is the way to go, and then some other guy will tell you the exact opposite.

Personally, I tend to stick to Saphir and Obenauf products, and a few others recommended by skilled craftsmen, and seem to do rather well.

Quoted for Truth.

I ride a motorcycle March through December here in the North East. Most of it spent in a leather jacket. If you want to see leather that REALLY NEEDS to be treated, put your leather through 90 degree through 40 degree temps, rain, hot sun, road dust and bugs, and all at 70 MPH for a few months.

With that in mind, I have used Lexol, Neatsfeet oil, some kind of bear fat/beeswax concoction, saddle soap, and a few other cleaner/conditioners.

What I can tell you from my experience is that if I don't treat my leather at all, it dries out fast under the above conditions. It needs treating every 6 weeks or so, sooner in the hottest months, or if I get rained on. What I can tell you is that I know a lot of guys who ride in leather jackets, and I've seen a bunch in very bad shape.

And every one that I've seen in bad shape is falling apart due to neglect, NOT because they used product X and it rotted the threads, or they used product Y and it made the leather turn get rancid, or product Z and the salts leached out of the leather or whatever you hear about different things.
