Lather Bowls

I've noticed a lot of spicific made lather bowls have a roughed up inside. Often with notches or a matte finish to help with lather building. I was wondering if this did something wonderfull and amazing enough to make me want to take a dremel to a thick clay soup bowl I've been using. The bowl I've been using is slick and glossy.

I do understand the spiral notched bottom, it does help with building lather but every bowl or mug i have ever used has had a glossy bottom. in fact i dont know if i would want a matte bottom mug or bowl. I use a onion soup bowl everytime i shave and it is great. It has no ridges and no matte bottom, but i still make great lather. I guess when it all comes down to it. Its up to you, but i wouldnt do it if it was an antique or expensive. Just in case if you do decide to do it and you dont like it you can get a new one without having to worry about it. If you want a spiral bottom bowl try tj-maxx.

I'm currently using a bowl from Japan made by Blue Moon.
It's very slick inside and I don't have any trouble building lather in it.

WCS has some killer hand tossed palm bowls with a swirl bottom. I just picked up one last week and for the price you can't bet them.

I'm using a soup mug from Walmart. Like a large wide coffee mug. Only cost $3-4, works great. I was usign a normal mug, but I was getting sick of the clang clang of my brush handle hitting the side, so I looked for something wider.
