Laser hair removal or shaving

I just wonder, anyone ever tried laser hair removal?
If so, its it really permanent? What results did you got and how much does it cost?

I am in londen, i found some place but I kinda first wanna do some research before i make a decision. I found http://www.cityhairremoval.com, is this what you normally pay, any expierence!

thanks for your reply

I have not use it but know people who have. To my knowledge it works, but you need to get several treatments with it, I believe each time decreases hair growth.

Its very dependent on a few factors. Hair color is one, the darker the hair, the more effective it is. I believe its related to the effectiveness of the light being able to be conducted to the root. The lighter the hair, the less effective it is.

I had a course for best part of a year, every month. The treated area is a thinner now, maybe 70℅ of what it was. Greg hairs, bond hairs unaffected.

Honestly wasn't worth it for me personally, in hindsight..

I've done it on my neck, which was kinda prone to irritations, 5 years ago.

It is permanent, the hair follicles that are zapped will never grow again; what might happen is that new follicles can be created in the region, but they won't be the same as the old one. This is completely normal but we don't usually see it because we already have too much hair and one single one won't be noticed.

It takes around 10 sessions to finish, and while you're doing it your face won't look nice because in each session only 30% of the hair is eliminated, so until you finish you have a strange beard design.

In the end I think it's worth it.

I personally would never do this. As much of a pain as stubble can be, it's nice to have the option to have a beard if I want it. Also, even if you don't want a beard now, how do you know you won't want one in the future? I just am very opposed to such drastic physical changes to one's body, I guess.

But hey, that's just me. It definitely works for some people and if you think it is a good option for you, you should definitely consider it!

Before I discovered DE shaving and this site, I seriously considered this as an option, because I absolutely hated shaving so much and my neck got SO irritated, even with a brand new cart. My wife kept bringing it up and bringing it up. She had some cost information and at one point I think it would have cost somewhere around $750 to do my face, depending on how many treatments I ultimately needed. This was several years ago and I honestly cannot remember exactly....that's just the number that comes to mind.

I don't worry about the ability not to grow a beard. I wore a goatee (Van Dyke actually) for over 10 years, but at one point in my life the minor inconvenience of not being able to grow any type of beard would have been greatly outweighed by the comfort to my skin of not having to scrape it with a cart almost daily.

Now I enjoy shaving immensely....which I never would have imagined. I wish my hair would grow faster at times, so I could shave more.

Wouldn't consider this myself as I would like to grow a beard if wanted too, but each to there own.. I know you can get creams that reduce the hair density and grow back but like most things it can take time.

I would be paranoid about having it done on my face. What if they mess it up somehow and leave some scarring? I just Googled "laser hair removal gone wrong" and immediately confirmed my paranoia with some real life examples.

Actually a few points I should have added to my original response, and it's a lot easier typing with a keyboard rather than my smart phone!

I know that the effectiveness, and the potential scaring risk varies according to your skin color/ethnicity.

I used to date a girl who originated from the middle east, and she had scaring 'down below' from the burning from laser treatment.

But there was (is?), a TV program from the UK called Embarrassing Bodies, quite a fascinating watch. I remember there was one edition with the poor girl who had bad facial hair on her neck. She was referred to a specialist dermatologist and was prescribed a course of IPL treatment. I remember that the 'wand' that was used to treat her looked totally different that what I was treated with, so it could be there are more 'medically orientated' treatments out there.

For me personally, I didn't get treated on my face (I would not dream of it), but it was 'down below'. Different type of hair, and for a different purpose.
