Largest Horse Hair Brush

Just wondering what is the largest horse hair brush currently available.

I have the Best Shave #6 (Turkish) brush - which is a very good starter brush - but not good enough to be in my weekly rotation.

I also have the Bullgoose Beehive Horsehair brush - which I like very much.

Knot Diameter: 25mm

Loft: 55mm
Handle Height: 55mm
Overall Height 110mm
Hair: Vie-Long Natural Horse (50% mane hair and 50% tail hair)

I'm hoping to find something in a 27 to 30mm knot and a loft of 60ish.

Not sure if anything like that is even made - thanks for your help.

I'm not sure exactly what the Bestshave #1 is...I will shoot them an email I guess. Nothing is posted in regards to the hair.

Thanx, let me know, I got one in transit now. I was hoping for a boar, it looked like a boar In their picture.

I thougt the bestshave #1 was a boar brush.
I have both the Nr. 6 and Nr. 7. The hair in both looks identical, though different knot sizes. The hair in both of these in turn looks identical to
pictures I've seen of the Nr. 1. It's likely tail hair mostly, for cost reasons, unlike the mixes of mane and tail hair offered by Vie-Long in three different blends or more.

Two things that differentiate these brushes from boar: (1) After soaking in warm water, the bristles become notably softer before adding cream or soap, like Vie-Longs, and (2) They take not much longer to dry than a synthetic or badger brush. This in contrast to my experience with my father's Surrey boar brush, and threads here on boar brushes, which can take more than 24 hours to dry thoroughly. I've seen it recommended not to use the same boar brush every day because it doesn't get a chance to dry out completely between shaves.

That's a bummer.....can u speak on their feel? Are they decent brushes, I know their cheap, but sometimes u can get a good deal.

I've owned the #6,7 & 1, all are very good, inexpensive Horse Hair Brushes and ignited my passion for the V-L Horse Hair Brushes. The #1 is just too big for me and was great for Head Shaving or a Woman's legs, I like the #7 just a bit more than the #6 and enjoyed them all.

Oh well, at least I have 4 sticks of arko coming with it, so I have something to look forward too.

By the way, I read somewhere that the bestshave brushes were rebranded jaguars boars, guess that was wrong.

I have seen Jaguar brushes elsewhere that look a lot like the Bestshave Nr. 1. Someone here may have even posted a picture of his Nr. 1 that had the Jaguar name on the handle.

Since you have one coming, I'll let you be the judge. Like mftoms59, I prefer the Nr. 7 to the Nr. 6. It has better quality control, more even knot density, and with the smaller knot, an overall softer feeling. If Bestshave ever gets the Nr. 7's back in stock, I'll probably order another one, along with some other items he's been out of for some time now.

In the meantime I've been enjoying synthetics: A 23mm "Synthetic Badger" knot from The Golden Nib in my father's Surrey handle, and in travel mode at the health club, an Omega Sintex, 90018. The Sintex works best of all my brushes for face lathering with a stick, and the fast drying is good for a travel kit.

I never looked into horse brushes but two weeks ago I received a no name very big horse hair brush that's used by Turkish barbers (it's not the Best Shave #6) and it's very nice (speaking of performance as the handle looks very cheap) I've used it for bowl and face lathering. It's kind of big (
Knot Diameter: 28mm,
Loft: 58mm,
Overall Height 120mm). It was a gift from a Macedonian guy who lives in the Netherlands.
