Lanolin Allergy?

I really want to try a puck of MWF but have no idea if my face will agree with lanolin. If I can wear wool without breaking out is it safe to assume I won't be allergic to the soap??

Does anyone else have an issue with this soap?

I was asking the same question a while back. I was afraid to use MWF because I wasn't sure if I was allergic.

Do you have a dog? Labradoodles, Poodles, etc are known to produce natural lanolin because of the type of coat that they have. If you can pet one and not have an allergic reaction. I think you should be ok.

The other route that you can take is to grab a puck and try it. If you seem to be getting allergic reactions, you can sell/trade on BST. It should sell pretty quickly.

I hope that you aren't allergic. MWF has quickly become one my favorite soaps to use. Wish you the best of luck!

I am allergic to Musgo Real cream, but can use MWF without any problem, don't know why, but both products contain Lanolin.

Not quite what I would call allergic, but my skin has reacted to Musgo and Mitchell's/Kent. I got itchiness, redness and then a bit of drying-out of the skin. That's no indication on the soaps or creams, just tells you how sensitive my skin is.

I got a little irritation from the Creed soap (Original Vetiver), but that was bearable and not half as bad as the other two above. The Creed soaps contain "natural lanolin" according to the lid.

I tried MWF for the first time a few days ago and I did feel a slight burn but there was no other symptom beyond that and the shave was perfect. I wonder if it's either too acidic or alkaline?

This would not be a good test because not all wool products contain lanolin. It depends on how the wool was processed.

I also want to try MWF but don't want to take the plunge because of fear of being allergic. MWF was created in the 1930s by a chemist specifically for people with sensitive skin and delicate complexions, so one would think that it would be fine. However, there are B&B members who have expressed adverse reactions to it, so I cannot help but wonder.

I have pretty sensitive skin and if I'm allergic to a soap it is usually manifested as some mild redness that diminishes within an hour of the shave. That being said I use MWF periodically and I experience a mildly irritating sensation after the shave, but the redness is not really present and the shavve is very good. I don't think I would ever use it daily, but I like the variety, the shave is good and I really like the mild smell.

Ben,

The skins reactions to shaving products can be most odd !

The skin on my neck is particularly sensitive to glycerin, and will come up in red weals; my cheeks are much less sensitive. Go figure !

Musgo Real has more lanolin in than MWF - take a look at the list of ingredients of MWF (they are in order from most to least) and you will see lanolin is well down the list between a fragrance and titanium dioxide).

Good luck :001_smile
