I have been having a hell of a time trying to get a shaving edge off my Torrey. I read all the post that Krodor started and tried everything they said. For sure pressure was a big key factor that improved the edge a lot but still cannot get it to the point where I am able to shave with. I started with slurry and did circles for a while and then over time moved to half strokes while diluting. Then when I was getting close to pure water I would do x strokes. I rinsed the Grise and did Xs for a long time. After every 2 laps I would dunk my fingers in water and put it on La Grise just in case there is auto slurry. I would get mixed results with the HHT test. Some places it would slice, other places it played the violin and a coupled of placed the hair would pop off. So I thought I was getting somewhere and continued what I was doing before. Did the HHt test again and the results would vary again but not in the same place as before. Continued the Xs and did the HHT and only played the Violin. Went back with a bit more pressure and then got back to where I was originally in respect to the HHT. I was not able to get a consistent edge.
I thought maybe this is as far it will go with on water. I lathered up a brush and lathered my Grise. The blade glides on the coticule effortlessly. Super smooth feeling when I did my x strokes. I notice that it really shined up the edge so I thought this would improve the edge and push it a bit further. Did HHT test again and it would vary to slicing to almost popping. I would re-lather my grise every 4-6 laps to make sure that there is always a slick surface. I think it pushed the edge a bit farther but unfortunately not far enough to shave with. Tried it this morning and nope, not well. I did a pass on my cheeks and there were a lot of stubble left over and my eye was wincing in pain a bit.
I was using badger hair to do the HHT test. I have a brush that is not great to use on the face and it easily loses hair. So I used this hair to do my HHT test. Is that a bad idea seeing it is not similar to human hair? I was working on my Grise for about 1 hour and a bit.
Any idea on what I was doing wrong?
