What's new

La Faulx

I have the La Faulx + and ++ plates. I rarely use the + plate, favoring the ++ instead. The latter provides a closer shave with barely any extra aggression. I've been contemplating sending off for a +++. Can anyone offer their impressions of that plate compared to the others?

I'm wondering about this myself. I only have the ++ plate and I really enjoy the shave, but that BBS feeling doesn't last as long as I'd like. I'm waiting on the delivery of some Feather ProSupers to see if that will give me the shave I'm looking for. Much cheaper than a new plate so I'm hoping.

I found the La Faulx works best with a fairly shallow shaving angle. Have you tried this? Might be all you need to do, rather than buying another base plate or having to use blades that might not be your first choice.

Haven’t tried the +++ plate. I also have the + and ++ plates and really enjoy the ++. It is one of the best razors I’ve ever used. I don’t think I have a need to move up to the +++.

Hopefully someone who has it will chime in.

Yeah, I'm not going to upgrade to the +++ plate unless a deal falls into my lap. I'll have to pay more attention to my shave angle and see if an adjustment is needed. The La Faulx with a ProGuard blade is on tap for in the morning so I'll soon see.

I recently only got into shaving with AC blades with my Alpha Spirit. Unlike the DE blades, different AC blades different in exposure as well. Why not just buy something like the Feather Pro Supers to increase efficiency and aggression instead of getting a new plate?

Feather Pro Super blades will up a razor’s efficiency but at the cost of comfort. I would rather have a more efficient razor and use standard blades….but that’s just me.

For me, all AC razors perform better at a shallow angle. Maybe it's the blade stiffness. The long snout of the La Faulx promotes a shallow angle, which may contribute to the razor's smoothness.

I did end up polishing my brass La Faulx and I do think that improves the glide at shallow angles.

I want to try the La Faulx but can't bring myself to splurge after buying the BB Ti and Alpha Spirit recently. Is the handle a major part of the La Faulx experience or can I just get the head only and pair it with my Razorock Ti handle?

Good morning, you can buy the La faux head and choose which plate you want seperately. For me only, I like the LF handle, but you can see from other threads - others pair the head with the Timeless crown handle, and which I must admit does look very nice.

I like the handle. It's grippy and goes well with the design of the head. But, as Arsene said, you can buy just the head, and even extra base plates, without the handle, as many here have done. Still, once you factor in shipping, the handle doesn't add a lot to the cost of the entire razor.

I bought my head via BST and have been using a Crown handle. At first I wanted to get a La Faulx handle so I would have a complete razor. The shipping was a no go and over time I like the Crown handle with the head as well as the OG handle. If I was going to order a razor from AD, the handle would be a must have.

Could you guys compare ++ with vector? I’m thinking of buying one, and can’t really decide which to buy. + or ++. I don’t need super aggressive. Would be perfect if it works smooth with KAI Titan Mild and Feather professional blades. Thanks!

++ is smoother than the Vector and more efficient, IMHO. The Vector is lighter and more nimble.

I put my La Faulx ++ back into service with a Feather Pro Super. This combo is giving me the closest shaves possible. 18 hours post shave and a good portion of my beard is just starting to be felt again with the finger tips. 24 hours post shave and I'm thinking I could put off shaving until later in the afternoon.

I still wonder about the + and ++ base plates, but the Classic seems to do fine with my whiskers. As I've mentioned, I have used the Feather ProSuper ACs. The end result is about the same, truth be told, though the ProSupers might get me there just a bit more quickly. They are fairly smooth, but I still get more comfortable shaves with the Kai Titan "Mild" Pinks and the guarded Protouch blades.
