Kyle's prep

A common suggestion on B&B is that using a brush and blade provides plenty of exfoliation and thus using a scrub is not only unnecessary but also may cause irritation. As always, YMMV.

EDIT: There's another thread today on a Gillette-funded study "Insights into shaving and its impact on skin" British J. of Dermatology. For what it's worth, the study presents a graph that says, according to this small-sample Gillette-funded research, a facial scrub is more effective than brush/cream and cream alone in releasing trapped hairs. It doesn't say, however, what type of facial scrub or scrubs they tested--for instance, just using a wash cloth, using a commercial scrub, etc.--and it doesn't discuss trade-offs in terms of skin irritation.

I operate under the assumption that a terry washcloth is too abrasive for my own unshaven skin, so I'm looking for a mild face brush. I used an old junker boar brush for washing/scrubbing, prelathering a few times and liked that very much.

When talking skin and shaves, milage always varies! You gotta float you're own boat man...

When using Kyle's prep I do wash with a cleanser first. Then apply Trumpers Skin food, lather, massage in and soak with hot towel. Always get a great shave when I do this.

Kyles Prep will improve anyone's shave IMO (with or without my modifications).

Prior to partaking Kyle's prep, I use a Natural Boar Bristle Brush (I load the brush with Cetaphil soap then exfoliate my face in a circular motion).
