What's new

Knot size question.

I don't have a caliper, but measured the hole in my Ever Ready 100 with a ruler that has milimeters and read either 20 or 21 mm. Now, seems I've read that the TGN knots are slightly smaller than their stated size. So, is the common practice to buy a knot that fits as tight as possible, or a size smaller and allow for any blooming or swelling?

I haven't ordered yet, but will probably get a TGN finest fan extra hair, and set it around 50mm. Hell, I don't even have the handle glued back together, as I plan on cutting a cork to fit the loft height. That way, no need to break out the power tools and route the shelf deeper.

For the opening you are going to need a tad over the listed size. The fan is not as dense so the hole will not need to be as large. The plug size is slightly smaller than the listed size but the top of the plug is larger. If you have a 20-21mm hole a 20mm should work but you may need a dremel to open the hole a touch.

Hope that helps

You need a little room for the epoxy/glue. Don't try to do the finishing touches on the opening until you have the knot in hand.

TGN explains their sizing on their webpage. Whipped Dog appears to advertise the actual resin plug diameter so the knot may be quite a bit wider when measured at its thickest point; for example my 22mm WD measures 24mm at its widest. In the future I am going to be specific when ordering such as " the knot must not exceed 23.8mm at its widest point"
