I picked this lill razor up on "the bay" it looks like it's had quite a bit took out of the heel, properly honed will this effect the shave or performance of the razor? Is it worth sending off to get honed?
Heart breaker that one. Still like the others said it could be made into an interesting western kami. If you don't want it send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you.
Sure, modify it, It'll be a long "shorty" then. Or ,,, whatever you would want to call it. Just built one today shortened from the other end. Same thing only different.

An Heljestrand MK32...ouch, poor blade...it seems to be in really good condition apart from the chunk that was taken out (probably a chip in the corner that someone ground out).
I did something similar to an Heljestrand nº 4 - you can see the photos I posted here.
Whatever you do just be careful - you can still get a really really good blade out of that one if you like to shave with short blades - or you can ruin the blade while attempting to grind it if you overheat it and ruin the temper. Or you can just leave it like that and have it properly honed
That is some really great steel. I say it is worth keeping and using, even if the edge is a bit short. I think you will come to like it after a couple of shaves.
