Key West

I am planing a Key West Vacation with my wife and son

Anyone have any must see/do suggestions? I have never been, my wife has but it have been a very long time for her.

We are looking at some of the resorts right now and hope to book in another week.

Ah, The Conch Republic.

You have to eat at Blue Heaven. It is an outdoor restaurant with chickens and cats roaming the landscape. There are so many cool places to visit and eat in Key West, this one is a must IMHO.

B&B membership has its percs
+1 on My Blue Heaven, breakfast with mojitos .. the used book store is great, Sloppy Joe's Bar, especially when Pat Daley is playing there, a walk through the above the storm surge cemetery, then down east to the (might have the name wrong) White Street Pier

Hope your son is either young enough not to notice, or old enough to appreciate it .. Duval Street can be a trifle rowdy at night

I was married down there a few years ago. Stayed at the Ocean Key Resort. Not exacty cheap but it was excellent. We sat on the balcony and watched the sunset and Malory Square every night.

I've been there, had fun, don't recall much more though. Hemingway, beer, conch and a long drive from Miami...that's my memory. I guess you can say its fun then!

I just got back from taking a group of high schoolers on a marine biology trip which included Key West and we ate at the Conch Republic and went to Mallory Square to watch the street performers. While we were in the square we found this little food stand that sold chocolate-dipped Key Lime pie on a stick. I recommend all 3!

Oh and on a nerdy biology side note (this doesn't necessarily pertain to Key West but you have to go through the other keys to get there), you should take time to stop on Big Pine Key to see the Key deer. The keys are the only place they exist on earth. I think it's cool to be able to say you've seen an endangered species. We saw 3!

Ok one more: If you're into photography you need to check out the Peter Lik art gallery. His shots are beautiful. I think it's on Duvall Street.

Hey

That is where we are looking at, we are hoping they will still have room when we are able to book this on the 24th

Mallory Square at sunset should not be missed...attached are two photos I took last January

Also, I really enjoyed touring the Hemingway House, if you're a literature fan it's well worth the price of admission

+1 Fun little back street restoraunt. :001_smile

If you make it up to Marathon try the Keys Island Fishery for lunch. Fresh local caught, if your lucky they will have Hognose Snapper on the menu (really a Wrasse). The many 200 + Lbs local pet Tarpon will eat french frys when thrown to them.

All the standards along Duvall St. are good for me, Hogsbreath, Sloppy Joes etc...

If you like to fish theres no better place in the US IMHO. Try a half day trip reef fishing out of Marathon or something more hard core.

Drink Baby's Coffee My favorite is Baby's Private Buzz. A great wake up after a long night of partying.
