What's new

Just received my Gillette K-3!

I am a new member and this is my first post:

I am returning to safety razors after years of forking out hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars for the razors like Mach 3. I bought a nice 1965 Gillette K-3 on ebay three days ago and just opened the package. It is in near pristine condition. It is a handsome razor and I can't wait until I receive some Derby blades to give them a test drive. I laboriously researched the many various razors out there and decided since I am a starting all over go with the slim and work my way up to a fatboy. So, if you're interested I may be parting with the K-3 in the future, that is if another razor takes it place. If anybody has any advice on the k-3 please let me know. I was burnt-out trying to keep a sharp expensive Mach 3 at my disposal, especially for those mornings when i had to meet with clients!!!

The Slim is a fine razor! And K3 happens to be same as mine (it's my birth quarter)
You don't need a Fatboy....well at least not yet :)
Enjoy the shaves and welcome to B&B!

It is a fine razor. I received 200 Derby extra razor blades. excellent razor, blade and shave. I have not had this close of a shave in years. Not even with the new expensive 6 blade razors. I am so glad I made the switch back to safety razors. My only regret is not doing it sooner versus never having left safety razors in the first place!

The next step isn't a new razor -- it's a sharper blade!

Try an Astra or a Feather. Just keep the pressure very, very light.

But it sounds like you're doing fine with what you've got.

Welcome back and I am glad you decided to join us.

Congrats on getting a well-designed vintage Gillette. I used a 1963 and was able to dial-in my shave, starting out. It's a proven performer and it won't crack if you drop it in the sink or shower. Owning a Slim, I have no need for a Fat Boy because I know it's simply heavier. I haven't had luck with Derby blades, though. I feel they don't have the quality control down yet. Now you get to look at the cartridges for sale and laugh.

K-4 Slim is my fave adjustable and for me gives better shaves than my FB. Sacrilege? Heresy? Nah, just got "chosen" by the Slim. Hope you've been chosen too...
