What's new

Just another thing I discovered I like with DE shaving

Ok, I guess I am one month in using DE razor (the beginner's work horse Merkur 34c). One thing, I never been this 'Mr. Clean' type, not had a job I have had to be. I don't like or look good with a beard (and can please someone delete those shots from my mustache years of error?) BUT actually 3-7 day growth in my face suits me, I think so and people have told me. So I used to let thing grow. Hell to get away when it started to be a beard using electric or cartridge razor, one reason to join your guys :) Lately I let it grow a bit, and I noticed a difference. My shady look looked even better :) A different look for sure, and to the better. My theory is that I now shaves much much more evenly than my old bad shaves and so now every hair is more equal in length. Happy to find DE shaving is of value even when not doing it! I guess such things are different for person to person, maybe it is just me, maybe I am seeing things, never rule out that I am crazy :-D

You know, I thought that my habitual weekend stubble looked different, too, since I started with my DE razor in July. I was thinking it was all in my mind, but reading your response makes me wonder if there is something to it after all.

My change is more about feel than looks. You might be able to see some growth after 4-5 days, but you'd have to be within 7'-10' to see it. But I can feel that my growth is much more even AND it takes a good 24 hours to feel anything!

There was another thread in the past week that had a link to microscopic pictures of hairs, one of which had been cleanly slice with a blad and the other a ragged onehtat had been hacked off with an electric razor. The electric razor basically made for a face full of spit ends. That's got to make a difference in how the beard looks and feels.

I notice I have become quite obsessed with my own )and other peoples) facial hair over the last few weeks since I started DE shaving. I don't think I look good with stubble, however if I shave on Monday I am still relativley cleann looking on tuesday, however the feel of stubble is starting to annoy me since I started getting into shaving.
I find I am even surverying other guys faces and wondering (how do they shave, wow, his face is smooth, etc.)
If anyone knew what went on inside this head of mine, I would be living in a pretty little white room and I would definatly NOT have access to blades of any description, haha

There is definitely a difference in the tactile and visual nature of stubble created from DE blades versus cartridges and electrics. I've also noted a difference between OC and CC stubble, with OC being more 'even'.

Thanks for cool replies guys! Guess I may not be crazy after all. Yea John, noticed that in myself to :) And actually there are a lot of good shaves walking around. Particular the old timers, well they have the experience. One would like to think this is because DE/Straight getting back into fashion again. But suspect for many electric or cartridge works well. Well, was not for me and it is not just the result that counts but how fun it is to get it I say :)

I won't pass judgement on your sanity, or lack thereof, but I am glad you brought this up (Hey, if you're hanging out here, that's one tick mark on the "Evidence For" column!). I noticed the same thing when I first started shaving DE about a year ago. The stubble didn't look as... "fuzzy"? I'm not sure what the right word is. I, too, attributed it to the clean slice and evenness of the shave. I forgot about it until I saw this thread.
