Junk Shop Find

I took a chance today and stopped in at a junk shop I pass along a particular stretch of Louisiana highway and it payed off.

I picked up a three piece Gillette Tech (D-4), a Gem Micromatic, and two straights that are in really really bad shape. All for $5.

The Tech just needs some cleaning and the Micromatic is in decent shape (a little rust on the base plate.) The straights are going to JRichmond so he can hone his straight razor restoration skills.

All in all a good day for a newbie wet shaver!

Good score.

Since the Micromatic's baseplate doesn't actually rust, you're seeing a rust stain from a razor blade that had been left in place. Scrub with a little toothpaste and it should shine right up.

Thanks for the tip Chris. It did shine right up. I am still looking for a way to make those older Techs shine again.

You need to get yourself some MAAS.

If that doesn't get them shiny, I know of nothing, that will.

Re-plate always worked for me. :

But thats an equipment investment.

What we need is a can of spray on Rhodium.

Man, I would have some shiny razors.

Maybe I could bling out my electric toothbrush while I was at it.

it's a great polish. You can usually find it at hardware stores. A must have!
